Gemini to withdraw from Australia, the EU and UK markets

By Dennis76 | Looking after yourself | 27 Mar 2026

Gemini has decided to shut down its Australian, EU and UK operations, and seeks to concentrate on its USA and Singapore operations. Gemini had only just received its Australian license in October 2025 before suddenly deciding to shut down in March 2026.

Due to increasing crypto headwinds and reducing crypto prices, Gemini is reducing its workforce by around 200 people as it seeks to reduce business complexity and costs by concentrating on its core markets.

If you live in these countries and have a Gemini account, please make sure you withdraw all of your crypto and money by 06 April 2026. After this time, you may have difficulty in withdrawing your assets.  They have provided a link to encourage Gemini users to consider signing up for eToro instead.

You need to act quickly as you may not be able to access your accounts after 06 April 2026. You should have received an email from Gemini and if you have any questions or need assistance, contact the Gemini support team on the Gemini website.

There are still many crypto exchanges you can use in Australia such as:

Crypto.com

Swyftx

Independent Reserve

Coinspot

This illustrates the importance of maintaining your own hot and cold wallets and controlling your own keys. Exchanges can get hacked, shut down or go broke very quickly, leaving customers in limbo. Control your own crypto and make sure you control your own keys!
