Ukrainian state enterprise Energoatom will study the possibility of mining cryptocurrencies at the country's nuclear power plants by may 8. The corresponding order was signed by acting head of the Ministry of energy Olga Buslavets.
"To work together with Energoatom and the Energoatom-trading division on regulatory and technical issues of possible implementation of cryptocurrency mining projects in order to provide additional markets for electricity produced by nuclear power plants," the document says.
The initiative of the Ministry of energy has already been criticized by the Deputy from the "Servant of the people" geo Leros:
"Destroying nuclear power, almost the last state legacy that remained in Ukraine, the energy Minister suggests to shove cheap nuclear power plant energy at least down the drain, so as not to infringe on the interests of their sponsors and directly suggests that energoatomom mine cryptocurrency, and sell expensive energy to industry!" — wrote the people's Deputy on Facebook
Earlier it was reported that Ukraine is going to recognize cryptocurrency mining as a business and provide specialized companies with a simple and cheap connection to the power grid and special tariffs.
