Woke up with the birds this morning and went for a dance as the sun rose... whoever says you have to be out in the countryside to enjoy dawn is missing out I reckon, I love this time of day in the city. Granted, the only times I personally tend to see it has been (in the past, mainly) when I've been up all night but there is something extra special about getting up at that time and seeing the world wake up. Obviously much more enjoyable if you are not having to scurry to get to work or have stuff to do...
As I said in a previous post, I often get obsessed by a piece of music and that can drive my desire to dance. This piece, Open Eye Signal by Jon Hopkins is just fucking beautiful and no, I am not trying to somehow match the original video made for this song, it would be impossible, up there with my favourite music videos, but I think I got the ambiance correct... Being immersed in your own world, movement, solace, peace, feeling comfortable in your own skin, freedom...
Mmm, I think I can get a bit ecclesiastical about dance sometimes but I genuine believe it is one of the most amazing things you can do with your body. Not only is it great for fitness, but it's also free (no, you don't need a class, everyone can dance, it's not a graded thing, it's an intimate dialogue with yourself), you can do it anywhere (depending on how gung ho you are, I like dancing in public spaces for a whole host of reasons, having an audience not necessarily being one), it is the best form of exercise to combat Alzheimer's and dementia, you are using your brain as well as your physicality and if you really get into it, it can also be deeply spiritual too, because rythmn is something so primal, something we don't get to tap into in normal spheres of life or many other forms of exercise for that matter. Dance existed before music I think, people dancing round the fire to the rythmn of the flames and also, as George Bernard Shaw once said "Dancing is a perpendicular expression of a horizontal desire." IE, it is about as innate as the desire to fuck... Which as anyone that has been reading my posts will be aware, is another of my favourite things 😊
Enjoy your weekend folks
