FEBRUARY, BJORK AND JULIE ANDREWS... waving goodbye to Janus

February is here and January, the two faced little b***h that he is, has gone. Yes, I feel in some senses like I, we, can all breathe a sigh of relief. As I've said in many of my posts from last month, January has got to be the shittiest month of the year. Represented as a God with two faces (Janus - sounds a little bit too much like anus to me), one looking back over the previous year, one looking at the year ahead, I for one have never been comforted by that sense of duality. There is always too much pressure on what we want the coming year to be, tinged with too much baggage from the one just gone, and this year, this last year, being a prime example of why that is so tricky. Ie we all know that we are not out of the thick woods that encased us so tightly and in 2020, no where near.

But, that being said, February does still seem to bring some automatic semblance of hope, however unrealistic. When I went for my walk this evening, I could see a few buds appearing, smell something that I assume was honeysuckle and despite the dankness of the air, the greyness of the sky and the fact that I'm still a way off jumping about (knee surgery), I did feel like I had a Spring in my step. For a while anyway.

It made me think of this rendition of Favourite Things I did last year. I recorded it in the bathroom for extra reverb and my youngest daughter decided to join in half way through... Pretty apt really as my children are definitely 2 of my most favouritest things on this planet.

I like to think of this as more Bjork in Dancer In The Dark than Julie Andrews... Which although is an absolutely gut wrenchingly traumatic film, is just amazing and far superior to anything Ms Andrews has dabbled with for sure. Anyone that hasn't seen it, stop reading this immediately, find it and watch it! But be prepared, it is directed by the one and only, highly controversial in some ways, Lars Von Trier. I do love his films, they are always so brutal, crazy and just... Make you feel. This one in particular is a weepy but also makes you smile. If nothing else it is worth watching simply for the fact of having the Goddess like being that is Bjork in it! I would like to see a head to head with her and the God Janus... She would take that J away and show him for what he really is, the arse end of the year!
