Ultra Platform, Tackling Monopoly Of Today...
Today i want to talk about a upcoming gaming marketplace platform called Ultra, whose about to challenge Steam, Epic Games Store, Uplay, Discord and Origin for piece of a multi-billion dollar industry of game sales.
Until past two years, i would say there has been very unhealthy monopoly of Valve. Issue of monopoly is always the same, which is that it prevents from innovation taking place and you can basically run a bad business, bad customer service, because people have no other choice than use your product or service.
Epic did change the game a bit more, but they came with their own set of problems obviously, which has kept me from installing their launcher back to my computer.
The issue isn't one sided obviously. Many Gamers literally worship big corporate game developers who squeeze every penny from their pockets with lootboxes, micro-transactions, subscriptions, season passes and pre-orders.
At no point there been big advocators in the gaming space (outside from me really) who have advocated for full ownership of digital games and assets - in many games like CS:GO or League Of Legends you can get permanently banned and you cannot access your assets anymore nor sell them anywhere. You basically have to follow the Orwellian censorship rules or you will be robbed by the company.
Introducing The Ultra Platform
This is where Ultra.io will come to play - a new crypto fueled Gaming Marketplace where you are able to purchase latest indie and mainstream titles for PC with Ultra Coin and at same time own your games. So what exactly Ultra is doing differently from its competitors? Well let's breakdown some of these unique features here
-
Secondary Market: Once you buy a game from Ultra platform, after a period of time (set by the publishers) you are able to sell the game in the open marketplace to other users. This allows you to recoup some of the invested money just like you would by buying retail copy of a latest PS4 or Nintendo Switch Game. Developers also will get a cut of the re-sold game, giving them an incentive to enable secondary market for their games
-
Earning Tokens: The Ultra platform will allow players to earn Ultra tokens in the platform different ways such as competitions, participating on beta tests, watching optional advertisements, trading games, trading in-game assets or participating on a 3-Level referral program which allows you to invite friends and earn from their game purchases
-
Developers Make More: Currently steam is taking 30% cut from developers from literally offering absolutely anything except the big market they offer. With Ultra you will only give 15% as a developer out of every game sale you make on the platforms.
-
Marketing Toolbox: One of the big issues with platforms like steam is that if you're not a big developer your unlikely to get exposure from the platform itself. Ultra has in-built marketing tool that you can use to create advertisements that will play in the platform (These are opt-in) where players get money by viewing them and Developers get a chance to sell more copies. The developers have opportunity to immediately convert earned funds from game sales to marketing campaign.
-
Tokenizing Games: Big opportunity to grinders and game developers is that Ultra mainnet is able to create tokens inside the game that can be trade-able in the open marketplace. Let's say you want to sell gold you have in MMO game or legendary sword, this can be turned to into a token asset, which can be sold in the marketplace.
-
No-Locked Funds: Big issue with steam is that even though you can sell stuff at marketplace, you're unable to actually withdraw any of the funds to your paypal account or anywhere else really. With Ultra you can sell your games and assets, then move them into a crypto exchange and convert it into Bitcoin or real money if you want to. Ultra allows you to fund your wallet with Fiat Money gateways so you don't also need the hassle to actually go by crypto at an exchange. All games have a certain dollar price which will equate to amount Ultra you have, all game sales are done in Ultra coin.
Ultra Data Streaming
While i'm personally not that interested on downloading games immediatly in 5 minutes as they release, but this is still something that ultra has put time into in case you're interested to start playing games before the actual download has finished.
By using Ultra, players can enjoy their newly purchased game before having completed their download. Missing data continues to be downloaded while players are playing. The technology is being used by major companies such as Bethesda, Adobe, Riot, Zenimax, 343 Industries, and Bandai Namco and has already successfully delivered hundreds of millions of game downloads.
Allocation Of Funds
We already slightly discussed about the fact of 85% of income will go to developers and remaining 15% will go to Ultra for every game sale. (I'm not 100% sure what are the numbers of resells and asset sales, but i would argue something very similar).
However out of this 15% that Ultra gets, 5% will be allocated into a War Chest fund which will be used to buy exclusive games in the platform, this is a very good business model to make ultra much more competitive platform by getting exclusive games. This money is frozen by a smart contract which keeps that 5% there for 2 years, so developers can't spend it on dumb things. Steam is making huge gains, but how many millions are actually spent on improving the platform and not on Gabe's Cuckbeard waxes? We don't know.
Also one aspect that i do like about Ultra being full crypto which is the fact that Credit card fraud won't happen (Chargebacks that is) this is why Ultra has established collateral system
10% of all games sales occurring on Ultra will be frozen for period of 2 months as collateral against refund requests. Ultra will use these funds for verified and approved reimbursements. In all other scenarios, the developer will receive his 10% back 2 months after the software sale occurs.
Making the Mom's stop Nagging about playing Games
How many times as a young teen i had to listen Mom or Adult people tell me about how i'm wasting time with gaming and i will not amount to nothing in 10 years, well ive lost count.
What i truly find the biggest draw-in for Ultra is the fact that your contributions actually have monetary value. Many times as a gamer YouTuber you were expected to beta-test (provide info and catch bugs) and make videos about the game without no reward. These type of micro-tasks actually are being rewarded by Ultra system.
I'm hard believer that Micro-tasks are going to become real side-income for lot of people in future and they are going to create more jobs in the world - most of it also will be revolving around Crypto projects like Ultra.
Plebs are taught from beginning to give all data for free, give phone number, give address, give your schedule, give your pictures info among other private data, that has real value for free. This mentality has to change, not just in gaming but in totality - i didn't born into this world to become a consumer for big corporations or a slave for my government.
Everything that you do in this life has a some level of value, while it may incredibly small, it still means you should get something out of writing a review or making videos about a certain subject or game.
Ultra will 100% create a new class of gamers who aren't content creators or twitch streamers, but just people who are good at grinding games or beta testing and reporting bugs.. and these people are likely going to have future opportunities just play games for full-time if Ultra becomes a project of success.
Closing Thoughts
I only covered a fraction of stuff that Ultra has planned out in their solid whitepaper, which you definitely should take a peek at if your interested more in their SDK, Distribution, Token systems and other important info. It's truly very ambitious project there is many game developers already aboard like Microsoft, Bandai Namco, LucasArts, Apple, Unity etc.
The Beta version of the project is slated to release in Q4 of 2019, which should be around early october or so. You can expect more videos and coverage about Ultra in future and i do want to say i wasn't paid to say any of this, i'm just truly sold on this blockchain project after finishing the whitepaper.
There is currently ongoing Airdrop, which is valid for 3 days i recommend signing up before its too late -> https://wn.nr/hdtJDH
