Bazzite: Best Gaming OS on AMD
https://bazzite.gg/
I have had bazzite on a partition since it started.
I remember when it was just a distrobox container.
The current main caretaker "Kevin" has done a great job building the community around it.
In the beginning it was far superior to SteamOS once it got off the ground, in every way.
Now they are equal when it comes to gaming.
Both SteamOS and Bazzite hate USB wifi sticks.
Both SteamOS and Bazzite hate VMWare and Virtualbox. Your only choice is QEMU for virtualization unless you want to break your ability to update.
Bazzite is more buggy than SteamOS, but it has more compatibility with more hardware.
Bazzite works great with AMD, but terrible Nvidia support in the current build. They dropped CUDA in Feb.
I've been there since the beginning, and I have watched it grow. I was pretty peeved that Feb.
It's not truly an OS. It's just a custom variant of silverblue fedora originally built using a distrobox container.
It's custom silverblue, but still silverblue at it's heart.
rpm-ostree is easy to use. Along with all the ujust recipes.
"ujust update" makes updating easy.
You can just update in game mode too.
If it breaks you just rebase it.
Hard to get malware, because most people can't write Linux malware for a read only OS.
If you get malware just rebase or update and it's gone 99% of the time.
The user interface is a slick, fast, wayland KDE just like Steam OS. Fedora and Arch do well in wayland. For me Debian has been an adventure with wayland.
Distrobox is built in and so is flatpak. You can install anything from any linux.... except CUDA. Thanks Kevin...
