Coinbase has just enunciated a new coin on its list called MATIC. This is the token for the Polygon network.
What is polygon?
Polygon is a platform that aims to solve Ethereum’s scaling issues by building an internet of blockchains and utilizing sidechains for secure off-chain computation.
At the first sight, this project looks like a lot to the Polkadot project or chainlink or similars. I would say that the main goal of polygon is to use the Ethereum blockchain as a backbone and connect parachains or sidechains which are the dapps. But I have to do my own research to have more info.
What is the matic token?
MATIC is Polygon’s native asset. MATIC can be staked by validators that keep the network running in exchange for rewards and the right to participate in network governance.
Every blockchain has its own token, so this project can't be less. Matic is the name of the token.
The future of polygon
In the future, Polygon plans to add features that allow developers to create more powerful dApps on top of Ethereum.
