Yesterday was our last day staying with my wife’s Aunty and cousin in Cachoeiro de Itapemirim. Every meal we would sit at the large table on the varanda, overlooking the garden, city and the far hills. The table was always covered by a brightly coloured table cloth depicting various tropical fruits.

As a departing gift it was decided to buy Aunty a new table cloth. While Aunty was busy in the kitchen making lunch, the old table cloth was changed out with the new one. The look on her face was priceless when she came to put a pot of black bean stew on the table.
It was when I was moving one of the chairs, it caught on one of the table feet. Looked down and realised it was made of granite. Lifting the corner of the new table cloth exposed a grande mesa de granito.

Disclaimer: have always been fascinated with polished rocks and crystals. The Grandson and I recently began a small collection. It happens that a lot had come from Brasil.
Turns out the house is fully decked out in granite and marble. All the wall and floor tiles, window sills and even some of the door frames.

Yesterday afternoon we went back to the family sitio for a Brasilian BBQ. The top half of the valley used to be owned by my wife’s grandfather, growing coffee on the hillsides. She was born and raised there in the bush.
- 3 small monkeys were playing in a large tree and traversing the power line to the house
- the BBQ was charcoal fired, with a small electric motor turning a screw that slowly rotated 4 large meat skewers
- on top was a second layer were the garlic and mayonnaise bread and banana cooked
- grandson got to help squeeze fresh sugar cane juice
- grande mesa de granito in the varanda
- another grande mesa de granito under the large fruit tree
Cachoeiro Granite Capital
Cachoeiro granite is a natural stone known for its durability and aesthetic qualities. It is primarily sourced from Cachoeiro de Itapemirim, a Brasilian city known for its high-quality granite production.

Every year Cachoeiro hold their Stone Fair, an Expo for the international stone industry.
Granite vs Marble
Granite is a hard igneous rock with speckled patterns, highly heat and scratch resistant, best for kitchens and high traffic areas, while marble is a softer metamorphic rock with elegant veining, more porous and prone to staining, better suited for low traffic spots like bathroom vanities.
