The Svidovets mountain range is located in the Ukrainian Carpathians. It differs from other mountain ranges by a small amount of vegetation. The Ukrainian Carpathians belong to the mountains of medium height. Usually they are densely covered with forests, only the tops of the mountains are covered with alpine vegetation or have no vegetation at all.
As you can see, the Svidovets mountain range is mostly treeless. Why so is not known for sure. It is believed that cattle were overgrazed here in the past, as sheep farming was traditionally developed in the Carpathians.
I often visit the Carpathian Mountains. In general, I like hiking in the mountains. This time we were lucky with the weather. The hike took place in the middle of summer, so it was sunny and we enjoyed the warmth and the scenery.
From time to time clouds gathered in the sky and my friends and I thought that we would get caught in the rain and get wet. and such a case we had rain boots. However, there was no rain during the entire hike.
On the way we constantly came across thickets of juniper. Have you ever walked past thick juniper bushes? This is something incredible! There is such a smell in the air from them! It is said that once upon a time, people with tuberculosis were placed in the middle of juniper bushes and treated in this way. Scientists claim that juniper enriches the air with special phytoncides.
People are moving further into the mountains, building ski resorts and other infrastructure. We just came across such a construction.
