The eagle is one of the longest-living creatures in the world with an average lifespan of about 70 years. It usually spends roughly 30 of those years in the wild.
As the eagle turns into the age of forty approximately, it faces a major challenge.
By this time, its sharp beak which is its biggest strength has become curved and blunt, making it unable to grasp its prey in an effective manner. Its wings become more heavier with old feathers, hindering its ability to fly also.
At this point in time, the eagle is forced to make a critical decision in its life. It has only two choices: either die or undergo a transformation to rise again.
The transformation by itself is not an easy task; The the process is grueling and often described as more painful than death itself.
It takes nearly 150 days for the eagle to renew itself. This renewal period akin to a severe penance. But to live out the remaining the half of is 30 years of its life, the eagle must confront this life-or-death struggle.
To face this hard challenge, the eagle retreats to its nest at the top of a mountain peak. There, it would repeatedly strikes its beak with the rocks until it breaks off.
This process causes severe injury and bleeding putting its very life at risk. It then waits for a new beak to grow it back.
Once the new beak is grown, it also plucks out its old feathers by one by one and waits for new plumage to emerge in its life. Having done this, the eagle rises again with renewed vigor as if the eagle is reborn.
The nature dictates itself a similar path for humans. As we age progress, we must reinvent ourselves.
We need to shed old ways of living, negative habits and outdated professions, replacing them with new elements to experience is a rebirth indeed.
This mirrors is the eagle's struggle which is a true lesson for all of us. It is by no means easy at all.
But, only by embracing the change can we ensure that our remaining years are truly fulfilling.
After all, unlike other creatures that rely solely on themselves until their very last moment, we all have the capacity to transform in our lives too.
These animals forage for their own food, yet humans alone—as they age—often relegate themselves to a state of dependency on others.
This is precisely why many elderly people today lead miserable lives.
It is essential for all of us to renew ourselves much like this eagle.
Age is something that we can control; lethargy is the first sign of aging, and we must overcome it. Every moment spent in a state of lethargy causes us to regress.
Conquering oneself by itself is the greatest challenge of all.
If we succeed in this challenge, we can rise with vigor like an eagle at every moment in our life!
