As the Montréal Canadiens might take a 3-1 lead tonight in the quest for the Stanley cup,
the Canadiens have won the Stanley Cup more than any other team. (23)
Here is a my personnal story with The Legend of the Montréal Canadiens.
When we were kids we always played outside. We mostly played sports and hockey
was our no 1 game.
We played in the summer shooting balls in the driveway onto the garage
door. The door had imaginary targets. We were perfecting the art of shooting.
In the winter, we played through snow shoveling the ice as often as needed.
We played with frozen feet and toes, until the pain was too sharp.
We were the next champions to be and we would never miss a game on
''Hockey night in Canada''
On a sunny afternoon in the park near my house, there was a softball game
featuring ''Les Chevaliers O'keefe'' and think of them as the equivalent
of the ''Harlem Globe Trotters''.
That Softball team only had 4 players doing their magic tricks
and winning every game they played.
So while my friends and I were watching the game, I spotted in the bleachers a familiar face.
A quiet and humble man enjoying a simple afternoon watching gifted athletes.
I could feel my heart begin to beat faster and to make sure I wasn't dreaming, I asked my friend
Robert ''Do you see who I see ? '' and the look on my friend's face was filled with amazement.
I knew my dad had a special book called ''L'idole d'un Peuple''. So I quickly jumped on my bicycle
to go tell my dad while trying to catch my breath, ''DAD ! Guess who's at the park ? You have to come see him !!''
My thought was that although my dad was very ill with cancer, this legend would give him the strenght to
get out of bed. As a kid, we only see hope even if it is naive.
But my dad said ''I am too weak to go but grab my special book in the living room, go back to the park and climb the bleacher and
ask him to sign the book and he will ''
Well guess what ? Mr Rocket Richard did and wished me well too !

For those of you who are unfamiliar with this LEGEND, it would be like meeting none other than Babe Ruth.
My dad has since passed away, but I cherish this magical moment in time as we both had a devotion and a passion for
hockey and our home team famously known as ''The Habs''
This book sits proudly on the top shelf of my library and I think of dad everytime I read it.
There has been many great players in this sport but pound for pound The Rocket remains the best player of all times.
I KID you not, for I am a lucky KID in my heart and always will be.
Thanks DAD for this great memory. I love you so very dearly xxoxx.
