So once you have the Wombat app, getting started on a game called Wombat Dungeon Master is very easy. This is a game made by the same team as the app.
I'm not actually doing this from an affiliate angle(thought im taking the opportunity) but it is just a very good introduction to how NFT gaming works and the WAX blockchain. You could use another WAX wallet such as anchor, you could also check out other games too as there are plenty on WAX.
This game was my very first introduction to games on a blockchain along with another game called nftpanda world of fantasy, but for that game you need to buy NFTs so I am skipping this for now as it is more complicated and requires you to spend money on wax (the creators of nftpandawof also stopped working on it months ago, and very few actually play it now).
So you open Wombat Dungeon Master and connect your wallet to the game, if you are using the wombat app you will need to open the game from within the app.
The Wombat App offers a few free WAX transactions for you daily so you can actually play a little without needing to stake anything, when asked to sign a transaction it will come up with a green tick and say "transaction covered" so you can sign it and the wombat app covers the CPU cost (just think of CPU cost as an allowance of how much you can do on the wax blockchain, I will go into CPU & RAM in better detail another time.)
As when you play the game you are actually making transactions on the WAX blockchain and each transaction you make is recorded on it, ie. started run, staked item, equipped item etc.
These are recorded on the blockchain using your wallet address so it is not necessarily easy to identify exactly who each gamer is, but you start to recognise some people by their wallet names - especially if you write articles with affiliate ids!
The wombat game actually has its own cryptocurrency called wombat and 15million wombat is given out to players every season based on how well they score, a season is around 6 or 7 weeks and at the time of writing 15million wombat is $5300.
The first season I played, I think 14, I actually didn't think much of this game as i had next to no wax in my wallet and with very little items I could not do much at all. But later on in season 17 I decided to give it another shot and my wombat had leveled up more and i had better items then i got to a point where I could actually get something of value back from it, you need to hit pass the 70,000 contribution in a day and you start to get bonus wombat tokens rewarded and you can also get NFTs every 24 hours, the better you do the higher the chance.
As there are various other rewards while playing wombat dungeon master such as for making achievements each season, I must have gotten between 500-1000 wax in this season, currently $28-$56.
You will start to recognise what is valuable and what isn't, and prices of NFTs do fluctuate as well depending on the various drops and blends the wombat team have going on - I will explain drops and blends in another post to give a lot more detail, but a drop is basically putting a digital item on sale in a marketplace and a blend simply put, is using NFTs and tokens to get something else.
Since playing on wombat dungeon i have spent 6500 wax and sold 3000 wax - but bare in mind that the items I have are themselves valued well over 3000 wax, the sidekick alone is 800wax, it has definitely been a profitable game personally.
Also keep in mind when you are working with NFTs they often have very low liquidity, meaning if you want to make a quick sale you will have to sell them much cheaper so I wouldn't spend any money that you will need to take back out in a hurry, think of it as a long term investment.
I did also stake 200,000 wombat tokens for the free season pass and boxes each season as well, these are valued around 250wax and you get them each season for staking 200000 wombat.
So this is a basic introduction to NFT gaming for you. Let me know if you get confused on trying this out and I can edit the post to have the answers for that for the next people.
Happy gaming!
Next I will likely move into explaining the NFT marketplaces, there is also the DEX to look forward to as well, a decentralised exchange for buying and selling crypto.
