Dear Friends,
While many people around me have told me about losing lakhs or even crores in the stock market. But I had never met any of them in person; They had always shared this via email or text messages on platforms like Messenger.
Yesterday, I attended a family function for my sister. A woman knowing that I am involving in stock markets, voluntarily approached me and mentioned that her son had lost ten lakh rupees in the stock market.
She was so weeping uncontrollably while she spoke; It was so heartbreaking to see her. She explained that they had to sell their land to clear the debt.
When she tearfully said that it would take for them years to earn back that amount. I was completely at a loss for words to console her on the spot.
Until now, I had only heard about such losses through words only. This was the first time I had ever met a family member who had actually lost money in this way.
Witnessing first and how a single wrong decision can devastate a family that makes the impact feel far more profound and put in deep trouble.
Upon inquiry, I learned that the young man hadn't lost the money through standard stock market trading. Instead, he had been befriended online by a woman who convinced him that investing in cryptocurrency would yield manifold returns within a few months. He believed her. He had no prior personal connection to her; their entire interaction was online.
She had gradually persuaded him to part with his money over a series of conversations.
Even I didn't fully grasp the details of the scheme, and the mother couldn't explain it clearly either.
The bottom line is that ten lakhs are gone. Now, the young man has withdrawn from everyone and remains confined to the house.
Was all this really necessary?
I simply cannot understand how people place their trust in complete strangers.
It has been over a year since the money was lost, yet the mother spoke to me still hoping that there might be a way to recover it. Yet, the son himself has no clarity regarding whom he gave the money to, where it went, or who the woman involved was. Fearing embarrassment if this became public knowledge, they haven't breathed a word about it to anyone to this day.
The point where they all get deceived is the same: initially, they hand over a small sum—say, 5,000 or 10,000. In return, they receive 10,000 or 20,000 back.
Encouraged by the belief that they are getting back more than they invested, they go on to invest lakhs.
And then? You simply have to write off that money.
Various scams operate around us under different guises.
Let me say just one thing: no matter what anyone tells you, never trust anyone with your money for something you do not understand or know about.
Do not forget that your own greed is the greatest strength of those who seek to deceive you.
