Is XRP Decentralized?

By Yasin | Kripto | 13 Oct 2019

The centrality of XRP developed by Ripple has been debated for a long time. New data on the XRP show that centralized management within the network is increasingly weakened.

Operation of XRP
In the XRP network, the so-called verifier nodes decide whether the operations on the network are valid. If a process is "verified" at the end of the process, it can be performed without any problems.

In order for a network to be completely decentralized, these nodes should not be managed by a single company or organization. According to current data, the XRP network is becoming more and more decentralized.

Centrality Ratio
According to sources like XRP Charts, the centrality of the XRP network is dropping steadily. When we look at Unique Node List (UNL) on the network, only a few of them are managed by Ripple.

According to current data, 79 percent of the trusted nodes in the XRP network are not managed by Ripple. This means that the XRP is much more decentralized than in the past.

Really Decentralise?
Even though the proportion of independent UNLs within the XRP network has increased compared to the past, the proportion of nodes managed by Ripple has decreased, it is hardly possible to say that XRP is completely decentralized.

Today, Ripple still identifies trusted nodes (UNLs) within the XRP network. This means that Ripple still plays a very important role in network management.

The company would like to remove itself completely from this process and make the selection of UNLs completely independent, but this has not yet happened.
