Are you familiar with Pexels?
It is a platform where content creators can upload or find & download high-quality images & videos. Royalty-free. The photographers upload their content, knowing that anybody can find, download and share it, even for commercial reasons - no attribution - free of charge.
In this post I will share my 2022 experience, earnings and learnings from the platform! I also share some tips you should follow if you are considering joining a royalty-free image-sharing platform.
Read on!

There are many similar websites, each one with its own differences. One of the main difference between let's say .. unsplash / pexels is that with the second, the photographer has the opportunity to share a paypal / donation address. And everytime someone downloads their photo, they will get a message by pexels "say thanks - with links to their social / donation accounts"
Let's get back to me :)
I have written in the past the reasons why I share some of my images at Pexels, and since 2020, my view remains almost the same.
You can see here my post for the 1st donation of 5$ ever received in Pexels!
And this post is about 7 reasons why I share my photos in Pexels
Back to the most recent number!
How much did I earn in 2022 by Pexels Donations?
I earned the astonishing amount of ...
drum roll!
20$
7 donations with amounts from 1$ to 5$
Some thank you messages and many, many downloads!
My statistics up-to-date

16 million views, 262K downloads etc
Am I satisfied?
Yes, because this has been an opportunity for me to learn more about photography.
To practice and test with real photography, with real users.
I have the chance to show the place I live in, to try my creativity, to learn new techniques while exploring around.
Is there anything I could do to increase my chances of getting noticed/tipped?
Yes, there are many tips I could give myself (or you, if you are thinking of joining)
- Make sure you upload the selected images (I do not always post my best images)
- Try the collection, where you can categorize your photos as per their theme (I have not done it yet)
- Try to be seasonal, uploading themed images right before the searching starts i.e. We are in January now - we should start uploading images about Valentine .. and Carnival :)
- Spend sometime to see what other users are uploading. Not for copying them, but to get inspiration.

Should you join?
The decisions is solely yours to take. If you are fine with seeing some of your images be used by anyone in the world, and for any reason. If you do not mind not getting (directly) acknowledgment & compensation for your work, then no.
But if you are just starting, if you are testing things out and are in the learning process - I think it can be an extra exposure for your work.
I am currently testing more apps/platforms
I enjoy testing more applications & platforms, and then sharing my discoveries with my readers. I am testing a couple of apps and will be writing about them in the near future.
If you have any queries/requests, post them below in the comments' section!
What are your thoughts?
Are you a photographer? Do you share any of your images online? Where and for what reason? Do you think of monetizing your content?
