Wow. Rio de Janeiro in Upland, my favorite Monoply-esque game on the blockchain on steroids that you can make $USD sales from playing.
Are you playing yet? Get enough free UPX (in-game currency) for easy sign-up such that you can buy your first free metaverse property in Upland by using my referral link here: https://r.upland.me/GDVJ Highly suggested that you go through some of my previous articles (https://www.publish0x.com/@jglonder) and especially the official guides on Upland for beginners to pick where you want to start. Keep in mind outside of a couple of cities (Detroit) you will only be given enough free in-game currency when signing up so as to have to invest fiat to afford the more expensive cities going in. Don't go in willy-nilly, do a little research. But use a referral link, it will come in handy later.

Rio's release was pretty crazy.
Whereas there is still a lot of stuff for beginners and some veteran players to mint in the last two cities Queens, and Las Vegas, and these are not sold out, this time around, everything including beginner-only FSA properties sold out in Rio, in what seemed like only minutes.
From Discord, for the Rio release, the stats were that 54 properties were minted per second on the EOS blockchain, and 3,220 properties minted per minute.
It was around 50 thousand properties, so, again it did not take long for everything to sell out entirely.
The Upland World Metaverse map is expanding as you can see below, and the Rio airport is now visible in the bottom right corner of the Western hemisphere's map.

The release was a week ago. Tomorrow, August 2nd, at 8 am New York City time, collections will be announced. Here's what the neighborhood map looks like.

One crazy novel feature for this city release among all cities was an entirely FSA-beginner-designated neighborhood way off to the left of everything else as seen above.
Without that area way to the left in view, the Rio map is a little more interesting as seen in the two sections near the bay below.

Copacabana- is one of the most well-known beaches in the world. But locals hate it - will it be a collection?

Collection properties can be very valuable and hold sentimental value if you were the first to mint them, and love the area or property. People have ideas already a crazy node jumped up overnight in Monero, and racetracks for cars are being planned.
It is very hard to predict what will be collections, there is just so much good stuff in Rio.
I started with 9 properties sold three, and have more UPX than when I went into Rio. Two were tough for me to sell because they have a high potential for collections and a racetrack, but the markups were too juicy to resist. If half of those I still have remaining land good, I will be feeling great. One is a higher mint, which is a little concerning if the market drops post-collection announcements. But, it is in an expensive neighborhood and area. One of the other of the six I have left is a higher-priced mint relative to a large number of lowe mints in that neighborhood, but at a good location for treasure hunting. These are my two most concerning. However, since Rio is sold out, entirely, I am not as worried as if there were swaths of unminted properties near me.
I think perhaps, that because Rio sold out entirely, collections should be expected to be the most logical choices, and have less to do with Upland'splans for future city expansion and encouraging minting in neighborhoods and areas that did not sell out. Quite different from how theLas Vegas release went, in some ways.
One thing is for sure, I expect a perhaps drastic drop in prices for non-collection properties posts the announcement. You could arbitrage maybe from USD back into UPX but make sure you have an exit plan on the other end though too.
It is too speculative to really predict what will be collections. Perhaps Copacabana off name recognition, but locals hate this area, and again, there is so much in Rio, that collections could be about anything. In total there will be about 20 collections, including the standards, limiteds, exclusives, rares, and ultra-rares. That includes streets, avenues, neighborhoods, and stuff like museums for ultra rares and so forth.
A couple of people might get lucky (or unlucky) and snag a few properties that people forget to reprice at the moment collections are released.
Next up could be Porto Portugal, and everything to do with the FC Porto futbol club association and partnership with Upland, and the city of Porto Portugal. And, we will see what happens with decor and manufacturing.

"The introduction of FC Porto to Upland includes opening the city of Porto with NFT properties mapped to their real world addresses that fans can purchase; the construction of FC Porto’s Estádio do Dragão (Dragon Stadium); and the launch of the first suite of NFTs of a European football club. Unique to Upland, fans can collect common and rare NFTs via fun and engaging game mechanics and offer their NFTs in player-owned and operated shops located on their virtual properties throughout the metaverse. The first phase of the FC Porto rollout in Upland will happen during the 2022/23 season"
For now, I have begun construction on my first building in Rio. It's on a peninsula in the Urca neighborhood. Every time I launch my block explorer there, he ends up going for a swim in an Ocean bay or hiking in the mountains alongside the property. Figured keep him happy, good things will happen for him in that reality. Stay in Rio a while, or travel back to Detroit - my block explorer was begging to stay, or it so it seemed. So, there he is, floating around Rio. Figured we would stay for the Brazilian women, and beaches, and to enjoy the scenery for a while.
Sorry, Detroit I may never be back if collection announcements go well. One day I will return. All about strategy. If you want to play start here: https://r.upland.me/GDVJ
Good luck tomorrow everyone.
