Crypto is a realm of the financial market that has it's fair share of late night advertising, creating a plethora of myth surrounding this new technology. I'm here to help cover some, and probably give you some laughs from the relatability, as I sure know I once believed a fair share of these.
Expectation- I'll spend 10 bucks and in a week I'll retire!
This is 100% the most common one, with every extreme success story being sent around the web to make others assume it is normal. This leads to many people placing pocket change into crypto and expecting to be millionaires and retire! When the obvious occurs, and they don't retire to their private island they undoubtedly call crypto a scam and swear to avoid it. We all know somebody who is like this, or have seen one of these people in a Reddit post. C'mon, if you are one of these people, get serious, it's not happening.
Reality- Crypto is a normal investment, and some will win, others will lose
Crypto is an investment, just like real estate and government bonds. Any sane person doesn't expect to become an overnight millionaire through these securities, so why should crypto be any different? Due diligence is required to get optimal returns, along with realistic expectations and patience. If these aren't there, only sheer luck will stop you from losing everything.
Expectation- Crypto is a scam, I'm not going near that
People have a habit of remembering lies very well, and this is highly evident in crypto. People don't understand something, so other than attempting to learn it, they quickly find a reason to justify their ignorance. Having a one sentence response, such as "it's a pyramid scheme", is all they need to conquer the world of crypto. If they hear a single 'expert' claim that Bitcoin is going to zero, that is all the evidence they need, even if they don't understand the arguments, or know what he is an expert of.

Reality- there are some scams, but there is also many amazing projects!
There are some con artists who hope to create a coin to pump and dump, but for the main part, people in the world if crypto are passionate about their projects and providing a product to the world that adds value. If you undertake some due diligence and not just listen to the marketing, you will also be able to avoid these scams for sure, and focus on the projects of the future.
Expectation- the lower the coins price, the more profit

A fallacy of many newcomers to the world of finance is failing to think in percentages, along with being overly optimistic. They think if something is a thousandth of a dollar, it is easier for it to double than say, a coin at $10 when the market cap matters more. This is evident with the hype of Shiba, with many believing with how cheap it is, there isn't a doubt that it will double... I'll wait and see how this plays out.
Reality- Supply and demand matter far more than a coins price
For those of my audience who are graced with some basic economics knowledge, they will know supply and demand dictate prices, and not how easy it seems for a coin to double. I guess some lessons can only be learnt with time, a textbook and a reality check. This may be a severe road barrier for some.
Thanks for reading, I hope you leave more educated and with sore abs from the laughs!
