Welcome to “Top 5 Cryptocurrency Movers” where I look at all the major crypto coins on the market and choose the five that made the biggest move (either positive or negative) on this day, explaining my thoughts why the move happened, as well as the historical significance of the particular crypto. Here are my top five cryptocurrency movers for December 26, 2020:
#5: Bitcoin (BTC) ($25,690.37, +6.07%)
Another day, another brand new all-time high for Bitcoin! The most popular cryptocurrency crossed the $25,900 mark for the first time, before settling in at just under $25,700 for the day, good for over a 6% increase. The Bitcoin rally continues despite negative news from Shark Tank stars Kevin O’Leary and Mark Cuban, who are both “out” on BTC because of fear in government regulations.
#4: 1inch (1INCH) ($1.76, -9.00%)
The 1inch token is the newest crypto coin on the market, being released two days ago, on Christmas Eve. After a successful debut, which saw the cryptocurrency go as high as $2.92, many investors began to sell today, resulting in a drop of nine percent. 1INCH serves as a governance and utility token for all 1inch network protocols, including its decentralized exchange aggregator service and the automated market maker protocol.
#3: Zilliqa (ZIL) ($0.0787, +28.16%)
Zilliqa released their Ecosystem Growth Report for 2020, showing tremendous growth in all aspects of the company, including ZIL token performance. On the news, ZIL went up 28% overnight, reaching its highest level in over two years. Zilliqa is known for sharding, which is scaling based, breaking up transaction validating nodes in blockchain networks into smaller components, allowing the network to grow in size.
#2: Litecoin (LTC) ($131.09, +8.00%)
As Bitcoin goes, so goes its counterpart, Litecoin. Both share many similarities, including proof-of-work protocol, the ways they can be bought via exchange or mined, near identical code, but LTC is superior in the way it can process transactions four times faster and has lower overall fees than BTC. Litecoin is now above $130 for the first time since June 2019.
#1: Digibyte (DGB) ($0.0273, +36.54%)
Digibyte was today’s biggest crypto winner, gaining over 36%. DGB might not be up as much as similar altcoins recently, but still had a successful year, growing in price by more than three times. Digibyte was created in 2014 as a more secure, decentralized, and faster variant than Bitcoin. Over the years, the crypto has developed a loyal fanbase with strong social activity.
