AI was and has been a hot topic of 2023 and now with 2024 coming in hot it's time to take a step back and look at the reality of things.
For one AI is extremely far from being self aware and over taking us as much as some people might think. Now while there is a risk of AI hacking and not being able to be retracted back it would legit just break the internet and not really be "self aware" It would just do what it's coded to do and do it a little too well. But it also makes you wonder if closed systems, nodes and blockchains could actully be a shield from AI, a type of security.
What Really Is AI Today
AI is actully very limited and for all the top things people are saying and companies are investing in it's pretty much a new algo that compiles data in a different and faster way making it more efficient for things like SEO, article writing, image generation, search functions etc. But it doesn't really do anything more than what already exists.
If anything it just simply does it a little faster. I'll admit I'm impressed with how fast you can type just about anything into ChatGPT and other AIs and quickly get data back. The issue is it's data someone has already written and is simply just regurgitated up. The AI doesn't have any understanding as to what it is or how to create it. A human still must create it and give it the guidelines for it to make sense.
The Popular AI of 2023
What really sparked the popularity and demand of AI was ChatGPT which is simply a large language model otherwise known as LLM going forward in this article. LLM simply complies droves of data from an area selected and makes quick calculations to write up answers for what that person is asking for.
From there art AI started to really catch on. Midjourney being the most popular but also others like NightCafe and Leonardo quickly started to take hold as "free" versions for anyone to tap into while others required a subscription to access the service.
Outside of that video really struggled. Sadly what got the most traction in this area was porn lol which simply just replaces someone's face over top of someone elses lol We saw this also used for a lot of scams in particular with Elon musk at least from what I saw. Showing that video AI is clearly not used for anything "good" yet.
We also saw standards within some AI platforms where results simply wouldn't populate or outright rejected based on the AI creators own thoughts and opinions.
So looking back at 2023 was AI really that big of a thing? In my opinion not at all. It feels like over hyped up trash for the most part that simply takes just as much work or more work to create something from scratch. What it is good for is ideas to get the creative juices flowing when you feel stuck.
AI chat bots also became a hot topic this year but honestly look just as good as normal chat bots besides them tapping into chat GPT etc lol so there's not a lot going on there either. It's honestly a real disappointment after I look back at it at least personally.
AI In 2024
AI is going to have to start making some big leaps if it wants to become a powerhouse. Normally however development like this takes years and I don't think we are going to find anything all that meaningful until 2027 to be honest. Just with the way things roll in the development world. The next most likely spot AI is being focused on right now is going to be drones and war as we saw a increasing shift of that from the Ukraine war.
Imagine instead of just single drones piloted by someone called dumb munitions you had AI drones that could seek out targets based on profiles, insignias etc. As sad as war is war is what rapidly advances the tech world and the AI world is going to be no exception of this. Think of it as the cold war but AI style now and it's going on right now behind the curtains.
