Web3 is soon going to go mainstream with mobile phones integrating web3 technology in them. Nothing Phone(1) is one such mobile integrating Polygon’s Technology where these mobile phone users can easily get access to Polygon’s dapps.
All this is cool, but what I am thrilled about is Nothing Phone(1) will make use of Polygon ID instead of Google ID or Apple ID that other phones make use of.
Web3 world with Polygon ID rather than Google ID and Apple ID for their Data privacy
Polygon ID is a privacy focused, onchain Identity solution developed using zero knowledge proof technology, where it’s made possible to verify a user’s identity without collecting their ID documents. Being a self sovereign identity solution, Polygon ID gives users control over their Data.
Where Apple ID, Google ID store your personal details and identify users through their phone number or email id, Polydon ID does not store or collect user’s personal details, Polygon ID only stores hashed data as a identifier for a Polygon ID verified user.
You can learn about Polygon ID reading my previous article — :
A Identity Solution that empowers users with control over their personal Data — Polygon ID
For a user to get access to any app from Google Play store, they have to link their email id. So, in the world of Web2, companies collected and controlled our data, which is stored in databases, given to third parties companies and Government agencies to track us, invading our privacy.
Therefore, when I read that Nothing Phone(1) is actually embracing Web3 ethos employing Polygon ID rather than Google ID or Apple ID, this was delightful news.
Oh, yes Web3 incentives through NFTs for Nothing’s mobile customers
Nothing community who preordered Nothing Phone(1) early on or supported Nothing’s launch through crowdfunding get Polygon NFTs called Nothing’s Black Dot NFT, that give them perks in form of early access to products or entries to events.
Again, this puts such a cool Web3 element in Nothing Phone (1).
Nearer everyday to the end days of Web2 with Web3 Era commencing
Web3 is just starting to percolate into the mainstream which has potential to push down Web 2 leaders like Apple, because Apple ID can easily be used to track users and use it to get complete personal details and intimate knowledge about the user. Also these Web2 companies have made money selling our data to advertising agencies, it’s common knowledge.
Ofcourse, it’s great to have mobile phones with blockchain functionalities, if Nothing Phone (1) gets popular with its Polygon dapps, other phones will also integrate blockchain functionalities, so mobile phones of this sort will introduce more users to the world of web3.
Conclusion
Let’s see how things shape, meanwhile keep learning more about the Web3 space that we will engage with tomorrow, as it’s definitely the future. This age might mark the end of Web2 and initiate the era of Web3, we are coming nearer and nearer that epoch. Therefore, the earlier we get into Web3, the world of blockchain, crypto and all that it offers, the more we stand to gain in the long run!!
