Warren Buffett is finally calling it quits at 94 years old. That is crazy, but, even in how he retires he protects shareholder wealth. At any point in the last thirty or forty years, if Buffet would have walked away from Berkshire Hathaway, the stock price would have tanked, but, waiting until he was 94, the stock price has been building in his retirement (or lets face it, death) for the last 20 years. After his announcement, there was barely a blip in the stock price.
Berkshire Hathaway stock has been one of the best investments over the decades, and I don’t just mean for long term investing, pretty much any time period you chose from the stock, saw above market gains. I doubt there are few, if any investment professionals that have beaten the stock over the long run. Simply investing in Berkshire for the last 40 years with no diversification would have beaten the market during every five year period. In fact:
Put somewhat differently, from 1965 to the end of last year, Buffett had achieved an annualized average return of 19.9% vs. 10.4% for the S&P 500.
That is almost double!!!!!!!
I know I have ranted on Buffett for his missing the boat on any and all crypto opportunities, but, the guy is without a doubt the greatest investor of all time in the traditional market.
