Never Underestimate Your Ability To Make Your Life Better

I know, a pretty lame title, but, I believe we have an incredible power to improve as humans by simply trying. In fact, I will give you a quick example. When I was not happy with where my life was headed in my younger days, I stuck a little note on the middle of my steering wheel that I constantly had to look at when I was in my car. The note had one word on it, "TRY." I found I was missing opportunities because of laziness, or fear or lack of enthusiasm. I made myself promise that if there was something I wanted or was interested in, I would at least try. It worked wonders. Whenever something came up, I made myself put in effort to achieve it. Close an extra sale at work, interview for jobs, start learning to paint. If I cared about it, I had to try.

Remembering that note made me think about how easy it is to affect our lives positively. If you are having money issues, make a budget. If you are lonely, make an effort to meet people. If your job sucks, interview elsewhere. If you marriage is unhappy, start working on it and yourself.

This may seem like trivial self-help crap, but, the next time you are complaining about something, ask yourself this question, "What have I done to improve this situation?" If the answer is nothing, then take action. Real tangible action.

If the situation still sucks, then it must be out of your control and at that point, the time is right to move on.

Try.
