Zonta is a Native American girl’s name meaning “trustworthy.”

Pronounced zon-tah, Zonta comes from the Lakota tribe.

In 1991, a women’s advocacy group chose Zonta as the name for their organization out of respect for Lakota women.

Although Zonta is an unusual first name, it’s a semi-common last name, especially in South America.

Notable bearers are volleyball player Maria Zonta and race car driver Ricardo Zonta.
