"NS. Pamela"
[To understand the term "non-simulacrum", you must first know what a "simulacrum" is - and then think of its opposite.

Unlike her peers, when Pamela gained "Non-Simulacra Status", she didn't change her name and kept her old Simulacra moniker.
She did this in remembrance of her deceased "original" and close friend Barbara.
By Federal mandate, Barbara was the legal "owner" of Pamela and society expected them to behave as such.
They hated doing this owner/servant schtick.
Nevertheless, they performed the charade believing that it was a necessary evil.
Barbara used to say, "It's necessary to prevent the natives from getting restless."
Doing otherwise would paint a big, juicy Bull's Eye on their backs (or foreheads); making them easy targets for all the bigoted hate-crime perpetrators in their community.
In other words, play nice, don't upset the social norms and your property and health will remain intact.
But when not under public scrutiny, they treated each other like loving sisters.
That's why Pamela was so upset when Barbara decided to stop her Leukemia treatments.
Barbara had already drawn up legal documents clearly stating that "No Heroic Acts" will be done in her final days; effectively designating her as a DNR (Do Not Resuscitate) patient to all Hospice caregivers.
17 days later, Barbara died the way she always wanted:
She was in her own bed, Pamela was holding her hands, her two Corgis were nestled by her feet and the Hospice Nurse was sitting quietly near the door. The morning Sun had a wonderful halo effect on the bedroom's cream-colored curtains.
Now, as Pamela continues to transition into Non-Simulacra life, keeping the name given to her by Barbara is Pamela's way of saying thank you to Barbara everyday for all her new freedom and self-sovereignty...
