Nanyehi is a Native American female name meaning “spirit person.”

Nanyehi was the name of a famous Cherokee warrior, recognized for her role in the 1755 Battle of Taliwa against her tribe’s enemy, the Creek Indians.

After the battle, they gave her the prestigious title Ghigau, meaning “beloved woman” or “warrior woman.”

Nanyehi eventually became the leader of the Women’s Council of Clan Representatives, which allowed her to advocate for her people.
