Originally as a joke, DOGE was created by Billy Markus and Jackson Palmer on December 6, 2013.

By forking Bitcoin, they invented a fun, meme-based community that was capable of micro-payments and was free from traditional banking fees.

Of course, DOGE is now widely recognizable around the crypto space by the face of the Shiba Inu dog - "Doge".

But most Noobs don't know the following:

Early on, it was clear that DOGE could not survive unless the unprofitable mining scheme was fixed.

Enter Litecoin.

With Litecoin's merged mining, DOGE could not just survive, but flourish. The Litecoin miners were happy because they got DOGE for free.

Ironically, DOGE's block time is 1 minute, while Litecoin's block time is 2.5 minutes.

In 2014, the DOGE community sponsored an Olympic Bobsled Team from Jamaica.

Then DOGE sponsored a race car (NASCAR), named the "#98 Moonrocket", which appeared on the circuit on May 4, 2014.

Presently, DOGE has had a wild ride; mainly due to Elon Musk's DOGE tweets and follow on Crypto Space publicity.
