This is not going to be a pro-Democrat or pro-Republican post. There is too much divisive crap going on right now. But I did want to give my opinions on the way American politics is going right now.
Let's get this out of the way first. I am a millennial. I know to a lot of people that will discredit my opinions on politics because I am too young to fully understand the legacy and why things are the way they are. But I would argue that none of that shit matters anymore. The country is not where it should be. We as a country need fresh perspective and fresh opinions to push through the new age.
Lets start with the Electoral College. I fully understand why it was implemented and why it was needed in the past. It was a way to give equal voting powers to the states based on population and such factors. I think that this pandemic has shown us a few things but also that where people physical live in regards to their jobs or their businesses doesn't matter. I work across the continental US and live in the Midwest. My company I work for is based out of a completely separate state. I don't think we need the Electoral College anymore. It over complicates things.
We need to change to every state counting every person's vote and the president who gets the popular vote wins. End of story. If 51% of the population want Joe Smoe as the next president then they should be the next president. The debacle that we all witnessed during the 2020 presidential election should never be. It would still allow for recounts if voter fraud is detected or whatever the case may be. BUT it would make the process a million times easier and make more sense for the 21st century.
Politicians are mostly two-faced assholes. I am saying Democrats and Republicans alike. They have put up with Trump's shenanigans for 4 years. Then one day Trump gives another rally calling people to action. And guess what this time the people actually did riot. And guess what happened next? The politicians in the Capital ran liked scared rats (both Dems and Reps). And I don't blame them. There were hundreds if not thousands of people in a angry mob coming to demand what they deemed was justice for what they believed was a rigged election.
I still can not get over how insane watching the news that day was. When I first say the riot I thought to myself "Why are the police not doing anything?". If that was a mob of black people all hell would have broken loose and way more than 5 people would have died. Look I am a white male, born in the United States of America. Born into a middle class Christian home. I am the definition of White Privilege. This country is so screwed up. We think black people are inherently more dangerous than white people. It is so ass backward and those people storming the Capital should have been shot with rubber bullets and tear gassed and the justice should have put down right then and there. I will say, I am glad to see the FBI is pushing to charge everyone associated with Capital riot.
Side Note: As the definition of white privilege, I am so sorry to the world for the way my country is right now. Not all of us are assholes, racist or assholes.
I strongly believe that the the 2 party system needs to go away. We need to get rid of the party system and the super PACs. There are millions and millions of dollars spent on campaigning. I would say that there should be a set amount each candidate can spend. The president candidate could have say 1 million limit and Senate candidates could spend half a million. Something like that. It would make people who want to be voted to hold rallies and new conferences and explain what they believe without having to conform to a party that they may or may not fully affiliate to.
And if I am being honest, I kind of like how previously the vice president was the 2nd place presidental candidate. Take out the stupid 2 party system and I would be completely game for bringing that back! :)
Things need to change RIGHT NOW!
