I've been to Singapore several times over the years. It's a beautiful and well-run country with great food and great history. Fortunately for me, it is legal to detect the beaches of Singapore and I decided to bring my detector and see how things would go. I'm very glad I did. The views on the beaches are nice.

But course the best part of metal detecting is the finds. There were certainly a lot of modern coins, about 70 Singapore dollars worth (around 50 USD). That money goes to pay for cab and bus fare. Metal detectorists are out there for history or gold. Fortunately, I found both.
Maybe my favorite find was a silver 1889 Hong Kong five cent coin found in an eroded area of the beach. Here's before and after getting the coin cleaned up.

And of course one can't forget the gold! I managed to get a couple small pieces of 22k gold as well as a 9k white gold ring.

A couple silver rings also came up.

It was great fun and I can't wait to go back and do it again!
