The gears and levers that power the Data Layer of Syntropy

Several key elements form Syntropy's decentralized ecosystem of data delivery and exchange, as well as various actors and incentives. The data layer enables a decentralized way of providing data, combined with a transparent payment structure. The ecosystem revolves around publishers, subscribers, and brokers.

The foundation of the data layer rests on three cornerstones:

  • Publish-subscribe messaging for all participants,
  • An application-specific string that uses utility tokens,
  • A unique decentralized approach to incentivizing.

The Publish-Subscribe protocol or PubSub Protocol acts as the framework within which messages are exchanged. PubSub makes it easy for publishers and subscribers to engage with the system for mutual benefit. Editors are like the broadcasters of our data layer.

They group data into topics, like “syntropy.ethereum.txs,” and send it to brokers. Think of topics as channels that you can tune into for specific information. Brokers are super-connectors, taking data from publishers and sending it to subscribers. With a dynamic network of nodes, brokers can quickly adapt to increased demand.

This ensures that data gets where it needs to go, efficiently and at scale. The application-specific chain forms the basis for agreements, accounting, and payments. It is reinforced by staking and incentive mechanisms. While blockchain acts as a universal ledger and authenticator, ensuring that only paying subscribers get the data. While subscribers are key on the demand side, publishers and brokers are the primary value drivers.

The system is designed to balance both sides, optimizing experience and incentives at all levels. Publishers compete for attention based on different metrics, from price to data richness. Brokers do not compete directly because they charge a fixed protocol fee. This stability is essential to the health of the ecosystem. Observers have an essential role in securing the system. They are responsible for monitoring the actions of brokers and assisting in the construction of proofs of delivery. This is the technical side of the Syntropy data layer.
