Stellaris : Nemesis

Stellaris Nemesis: what to expect with the new DLC from one of the best space 4X?

By CocoLasticot | Grand Strategy Games | 28 Feb 2021

A long time ago, in a distant galaxy

As a reminder, Stellaris is one of those games we call Grand Strategy, based on the principle of 4X (eXplore, eXpand, eXploit and eXterminate). This game thus allows you to develop your civilization on a galactic scale that you will have to explore by confronting different threats and encountering other species.  Note: the company that develops the game, Paradox Interactive, is very well known by gamers for having offered us, among others, the Europa Universalis series, Crusader Kings, Hearts of Iron, etc... It is a guarantee of quality (in my opinion) !

Paradox Interactive had offered us a very attractive trailer for their new DLC :

This one is called Nemesis, a particularly well-chosen name since one of the new feature is that it unlocks a new ascension asset for our civilization, allowing us to become an end-game crisis ! Indeed, whereas we are usually confronted with external threats at the end of the game, we finally have the opportunity to play the role of this threat and put the whole galaxy in danger!

New associated resource: threat

To reach this goal,  you will have to gather a maximum of dark matter in order to create star devourers who will literally... eat stars to generate a maximum of dark matter. This dark matte ris necessary to achieve your goals of galaxy domination, but you will also need to reserve some to produce more star devourers.

As you progress towards this goal to establish your supremacy, your threat level will increase. The developers point out that the galactic community will have adequate means to stop you. However, the usual end-game crises will not be removed. Finally, the AI will also be able to choose the ascension trump allowing it to become an end-game crisis, it will simply be less likely to do so if a player does it before.

Lies and betrayals

With this DLC, Stellaris encourages us more than ever to use subterfuge and lies in our diplomacy, whether to gather information about our enemies or to turn our allies against each other.  It is up to us to make good use of these tools to take power and become the guardian of the galaxy ... or on the contrary to make it sink into chaos!
