Serie A Matchday 2 delivers Roma’s dominant win, Milan’s victory, Inter’s clean sheet and major surprises across Italy’s top

Serie A 2026/27 Matchday 2: Roma Fly Again as Six Teams Stay Perfect

The second round of the 2026/27 Serie A season has delivered another weekend of contrasting stories, dramatic late goals, unexpected results and a rapidly developing battle at the top of the table. After the ten matches of Matchday 2, six teams remain perfect with two victories from two games: Roma, Inter, Milan, Juventus, Atalanta and Lazio have all collected six points.
Roma are the clear leaders because of their extraordinary goal difference. Gian Piero Gasperini's side have scored eight goals and conceded none in their opening two matches, following two consecutive 4-0 victories. After destroying Fiorentina in the opening round, Roma repeated the same scoreline away against Lecce, with Donyell Malen once again at the centre of the story. The Dutch forward scored twice in Lecce and has now reached five Serie A goals after only two games, putting him at the top of the early scoring charts.
Inter remain second, also with six points, after a controlled but narrow 1-0 victory away at Cagliari. Milan are third after beating Venezia 2-0, while Juventus are fourth after another clean-sheet victory, this time a 2-0 home win against Parma. Atalanta occupy fifth place following a dramatic 1-0 victory against Bologna, with Lazar Samardzic scoring in stoppage time. Lazio complete the group of six perfect teams after beating Genoa 1-0 through Davide Frattesi.
The most surprising result of the weekend came at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium, where Como defeated Napoli 2-1. The result gives Cesc Fabregas' side four points after two games and leaves Massimiliano Allegri's Napoli on three. Frosinone also produced a major shock by winning 3-0 away against Fiorentina, while Udinese came from ahead and then survived a late Monza fightback to win 3-2. With two rounds completed, Serie A is already showing several different identities: Roma's attacking power, Inter's efficiency, Milan and Juventus' perfect starts, the emerging strength of Como and Udinese, and several traditional clubs already facing pressure.

Roma dominate again and Malen becomes the early star
Roma's second consecutive 4-0 victory was undoubtedly the headline performance of Matchday 2.
At the Stadio Via del Mare, Lecce were already in trouble after only four minutes. A defensive mistake allowed Donyell Malen to find himself in front of the goalkeeper, and the Roma forward made no mistake. The early goal immediately changed the atmosphere of the match and allowed Gasperini's team to play with confidence.
Roma doubled their advantage in the 23rd minute. Wesley supplied the cross and Malen produced a delicate finish over Falcone. It was his second goal of the evening and his fifth of the championship after only two games.
Two minutes later the score became 0-3. Malen was involved again, providing the ball for Matías Soulé, who eventually converted after the goalkeeper's initial save.
The match was effectively decided before half-time, but Roma continued to control the game after the interval. Lecce attempted to react and created some moments of pressure, yet the visitors remained comfortable.
The fourth goal arrived in the 65th minute. Gianluca Mancini provided the assist and Rodrigo Mora scored his first goal for Roma, completing another 4-0 victory.
The statistics are striking. Roma have scored eight goals and conceded none in their first two league matches. They are therefore top of the table with the best goal difference in Serie A.
Malen's start is equally remarkable. His five goals make him the early leading scorer, with the next group of players on two.
It is still far too early to talk about a definitive title contender, but Gasperini's Roma have certainly made an immediate statement. They have combined defensive solidity with an attack that has already produced eight goals.

Atalanta wait until the 96th minute
If Roma won with authority, Atalanta won with patience and a huge dose of late drama.
The match against Bologna appeared destined to end goalless after 90 minutes. Both teams had opportunities, but neither could find the decisive touch.
Then came the sixth minute of stoppage time.
Lazar Samardzic produced the winning goal for Atalanta, striking from outside the area. The shot was made even more damaging for Bologna by an error from goalkeeper Lukasz Skorupski.
The 1-0 victory gives Atalanta their second consecutive league win and keeps them among the six teams with a perfect record.
The result also illustrates how different the early title race could become. Roma have won their matches by large margins, while Atalanta have collected six points despite a much smaller goal difference.
For Bologna, the situation is the opposite. They have played two games and lost both, leaving them without points.

Inter win again, but once more by a single goal
Inter's start has been less spectacular than Roma's but extremely efficient.
The reigning champions travelled to Cagliari and needed only one goal to take all three points. Hakan Calhanoglu scored in the ninth minute, producing another decisive strike from outside the box.
The Turkish midfielder had already scored in Inter's opening match against Monza and has now reached two league goals.
After taking the lead, Inter created a large number of chances and dominated long periods of the match. However, Cristian Chivu's team failed to add a second goal, leaving Cagliari with hope until the final stages.
According to Sky Sport's match data, Inter produced more than 30 shots during the game, while Cagliari failed to record a shot on target.
That statistic tells the story of the match. Inter controlled the game but left the door open by not finishing the chances that came their way.
Nevertheless, the champions have six points from six and have conceded only once.

Como shock Napoli at the Maradona
The biggest surprise of Matchday 2 came in Naples.
Como defeated Napoli 2-1 at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium, producing one of the most impressive away results of the early season.
The visitors opened the scoring in the 17th minute through Martin Baturina, who finished after an individual move involving Diao.
Napoli responded in the 30th minute. Rasmus Højlund produced an excellent left-footed finish from the edge of the box to make it 1-1.
The home side's momentum lasted only four minutes.
A mistake during Napoli's build-up play created the opportunity for Anastasios Douvikas, who restored Como's advantage in the 34th minute.
Napoli pushed for an equalizer during the second half, but Como defended the lead effectively. A late Napoli goal was ruled out for offside, and the visitors held on for a major victory.
The result leaves Napoli with three points after two matches, while Como move to four.
For Fabregas, it is an important result because Como are attempting to establish themselves as a serious top-half and European-level club. Their performance at the Maradona suggests that their progress may be more than a short-term story.
For Napoli, meanwhile, the defeat provides the first major test of the season under Allegri.

Lazio continue their perfect start
Lazio are another club quietly building a perfect record.
After beating Bologna in the opening round, Gennaro Gattuso's side defeated Genoa 1-0 at the Stadio Olimpico.
The decisive goal arrived in the 25th minute. Davide Frattesi finished a cross from Tavares with a first-time effort and gave Lazio the lead.
Genoa tried to find an equalizer, especially during the final stages, but Lazio survived and collected another three points.
The scoreline was narrow, yet the value of the victory is enormous: Lazio are now one of six teams with six points.
Their early profile is very different from Roma's. They have scored only two goals but have also conceded none.

Juventus win again without conceding
Juventus have also made a perfect start.
After beating Frosinone 1-0 in their opening game, Luciano Spalletti's side defeated Parma 2-0 at the Allianz Stadium.
The first half ended goalless. Juventus had chances and hit the post through Francisco Conceição, but Parma remained competitive.
The breakthrough came after the interval. Nico González, introduced from the bench, immediately changed the game and scored in the 62nd minute.
The second goal came in the 88th minute when Teun Koopmeiners, another substitute, finished after Juventus recovered possession.
The contribution of the bench was therefore decisive.
Juventus have now scored three goals and conceded none in two matches, giving them six points and a place among the leading teams.
It is a start based more on control and defensive discipline than spectacular attacking numbers.

Frosinone produce the shock of the weekend
Fiorentina's centenary celebration turned into one of the most painful nights of their recent history.
Instead of celebrating victory at the Stadio Artemio Franchi, Fiorentina suffered a 3-0 home defeat against Frosinone.
The visitors opened the scoring in the 25th minute through Antonio Raimondo, who scored his first Serie A goal.
Frosinone doubled the advantage in the 38th minute when Gabriele Bracaglia scored with a header following a corner.
The final blow came in the second half. Raimondo scored again in the 68th minute to complete his brace and secure Frosinone's first victory of the season.
For Fiorentina, it was a disastrous result. The club have now lost both opening matches and conceded seven goals without scoring any.
Frosinone, meanwhile, move to three points after losing narrowly to Juventus on Matchday 1.

Udinese win a five-goal thriller in Monza
The match between Monza and Udinese produced five goals and several changes of momentum.
Udinese went ahead in the 32nd minute through Jakub Piotrowski. Monza equalized five minutes later with Andrea Colpani.
The visitors regained the lead in the 45th minute through Hassane Kamara, whose long-range effort punished an uncertain defensive sequence.
Udinese then scored again just before half-time. Jurgen Ekkelenkamp made it 3-1 in the third minute of stoppage time.
Monza refused to surrender. Gustavo Varela scored in the 63rd minute, giving the home side hope of a comeback.
The final stages were tense, but Udinese held on for a 3-2 victory.
The result takes Udinese to four points, while Monza remain without a point after two games.
Varela has now scored twice in the championship, placing him among the early group of players with two goals.

Sassuolo beat Torino as Berardi makes the difference
Sassuolo collected their first three points of the campaign by defeating Torino 2-1.
Cristian Volpato opened the scoring in the 32nd minute.
Torino responded immediately before half-time, with Pietro Comuzzo scoring in stoppage time.
The match remained open after the interval, but the decisive moment came when Domenico Berardi entered the field.
The Sassuolo captain needed only six minutes to make an impact. In the 78th minute he scored with a powerful left-footed strike to give Sassuolo the victory.
It was one of the most emotional moments of the weekend because Berardi's return to decisive action immediately changed the match.
Sassuolo now have three points, while Torino remain without a win.

Milan keep winning under Amorim
Milan opened Matchday 2 with a 2-0 victory against Venezia at San Siro.
Ruben Amorim's team had to wait until the second half to break the deadlock. Gonçalo Ramos scored in the 69th minute, registering his first Serie A goal for Milan.
The second goal arrived in the 89th minute when Redouane Halhal inadvertently turned the ball into his own net.
Milan therefore have six points after two matches and have conceded only once.
The start is especially important for Amorim as he attempts to establish his tactical ideas at a club with enormous expectations.
Milan have not been spectacular, but they have been efficient enough to remain among the leading teams.

The Serie A table after Matchday 2
After the conclusion of the second round, the top of the table is extremely compact.
Roma lead with six points and a +8 goal difference. Inter are second with six points and +4. Milan are third with +3, Juventus fourth with +3, Atalanta fifth with +2 and Lazio sixth with +2.
The next two teams are Udinese and Como, both on four points.
Frosinone, Napoli, Sassuolo, Cagliari and Lecce have three points each.
Torino, Bologna, Genoa, Parma, Monza, Venezia and Fiorentina have yet to collect a point.
The current table, including goals scored and conceded, places Roma clearly first because of their extraordinary attacking start and two consecutive clean sheets.

Malen leads the scoring charts
After two rounds, the scoring race already has a clear early leader.
Donyell Malen has five goals for Roma, while a group of seven players are on two.
According to the Diretta.it ranking supplied for the competition, that group includes Hassane Kamara of Udinese, Hakan Calhanoglu of Inter, Anastasios Douvikas of Como, Davide Frattesi of Lazio, Antonio Raimondo of Frosinone and Gustavo Varela of Monza, alongside the other players listed on two goals.
Malen's five-goal tally is particularly striking because Roma have scored eight times in total. He has therefore been directly responsible for a large share of their extraordinary attacking start.
Of course, two rounds are nowhere near enough to predict the final Golden Boot race. Injuries, rotations, European competitions, tactical changes and the natural fluctuations of a long season will all have an impact.
But the first signal is unmistakable: Malen has started the season at an extraordinary pace.

What Matchday 2 tells us about the season
The second round has made the early Serie A picture even more interesting.
Roma currently look like the most explosive attacking team. Inter remain extremely efficient and continue to win without needing large scorelines. Milan and Juventus have also collected six points, while Juventus and Lazio have not conceded a goal.
Atalanta have shown that they can win difficult matches even when the decisive goal comes extremely late.
Behind them, Como and Udinese are already demonstrating that they may not be passive participants in the season. Both have four points and have produced results that deserve attention.
At the other end, Napoli's defeat against Como means the reigning ambitions of the club have already encountered their first obstacle. Fiorentina's situation is even more worrying after two defeats and seven goals conceded.
However, it would be a mistake to turn the second round into a final judgment.
The season has only just begun.
What is already clear is that the next round could be significantly more revealing because several direct clashes are coming. The official Serie A schedule lists Inter-Napoli and Roma-Atalanta among the key fixtures of Matchday 3, while Juventus-Milan will also bring together two teams that currently have six points.
Those games could dramatically reshape the top of the table.
For now, though, Roma have the strongest statistical start, Malen is the early scoring sensation, six teams remain perfect and Como have produced the surprise result of the round.
The 2026/27 Serie A season has only completed two chapters, but the story is already becoming difficult to ignore.
