AI at Work. Not Everyone Gets the Benefits

AI at Work. Not Everyone Gets the Benefits

While some optimistically declare total AI automation and easier labor for everyone, a new Gallup study suggests the opposite. Conducted in early 2026 among 15,482 U.S. workers, with final conclusions drawn from the responses of 7,845 active users, the research clearly demonstrates a trend where AI is becoming a privilege for the chosen few.

Among the AI users surveyed by Gallup, the results were distributed as follows .

• 63% noted they started completing tasks significantly faster;
• 56% felt a push toward more creative and unconventional solutions;
• 47% were able to offload routine tasks to algorithms and spend more time on what truly interests them;
• 46% reported that the quality of their final work improved.

And it seems like a perfect puzzle where artificial intelligence optimizes processes and makes labor more efficient, but all of this has a flip side. The time savings gifted by technology turn into a productivity trap for many. Every third user, which is 37%, noted that after implementing AI, management began assigning them additional responsibilities. In other words, if you started doing tasks faster thanks to innovation, management will simply load you up with new work.

But the most important conclusion of the study is that regular users are far from everyone, and the algorithm itself bypasses a significant part of the labor market. Only 28% of respondents use AI at work at least once a week. Meanwhile, the majority, namely 54% of employees, have never used it in their professional activities at all. This distribution clearly correlates with education levels and job positions.

• Among university graduates, 40% of workers are regular users;
• Among people without a university degree, this figure stands at a modest 17%.

As can be understood from the results, technologies are more often used by people who already have higher salaries, better working conditions, and greater career opportunities. The analytics also show that high-quality jobs, according to the study's criteria, are held by 52% of regular AI users. For comparison, among those who do not use artificial intelligence at all, this figure is only 32%.

Gallup itself emphasizes an important point - all these numbers are not direct proof that AI instantly made workplaces better or automatically increased anyone's efficiency. All these surveys are based on workers' subjective self-assessments, not on independent business productivity measurements. It is also important to add that top managers, directors, and executives are more flexible in their schedules, which in turn allows them to experiment with generative models. In contrast, in sectors with strict regulations or manual labor, there is simply no place or technical conditions for innovation.

To summarize and generalize this study, we can say that in the coming years, companies need to think not about how to introduce AI into their workflows, but about how to make it accessible to all tiers of employees. If the benefits of automation are once again received only by top managers, it will only widen the already large gap of inequality in the labor market.

By the way, a teaser for the future - I plan to break down another loud trend. Right now, practically every top manager or leader in the AI industry repeats the thesis that artificial intelligence will soon take over absolutely all work, and the concept of money will fade away entirely. Therefore, a big breakdown is coming soon on how far these sweet promises of a free paradise are from real economics. And in conclusion, I will only say that technologies should empower everyone in their work, rather than becoming another elite privilege. Thank you for reading to the end!
