Brave, the fair browser that makes you win cryptos has 14 million active users. Why such a success? Little focus on this browser.
Brave is a browser that protects your data. It was created in 2016 by Brendan Eich, the former co-founder of Mozilla Firefox. In 2017, it took the Brave team 27 seconds to raise $35 million!
Before the release of version 1.0, Brave already had a community of 8 million active users. Today, meters are climbing and reach 14 million. That is the total number of users active on the internet in Belgium and Luxembourg.
It’s actually late 2019 that things are accelerating for the browser with the release of version 1.0. In almost 6 months, Brave’s user community grew by 6 million users.
Why does it attract so many new users?
In my opinion, for two main reasons. The first is certainly because Brave is very efficient at blocking ads. So much that it allows to gain in speed because it eliminates all the heavy and expensive displays in data volume. I was rather septic when I started using it but today I am very satisfied. Its performance is second to none in the world of browsers. The second reason that makes it so popular is the browser’s ability to pay. I insist on the word possibility because if it is only the blocking of advertising that interests you, you can absolutely use it for this sole reason. By the way, if you want to be paid, you must follow the following procedure:
/ click on the 3 small bars (above right) / click on Brave reward/ activate them if it is not the case/ choose the maximum number of ads you allow on time /
Let’s get back to business! I just gave you a lot of figures, but you still don’t see the economic model behind Brave. To better understand, here is the token BAT (Basic Attention Token). This token is the currency that Brave will give you if you look at the ad.

As a reminder a token is a crypto that is only usable in a specific eco system, in this case Brave. That said, you can still sell the token on many exchanges. But if you want you can use this token in the Brave ecosystem. For example if you are an advertiser or want to support a content creator, keep your BAT!

As you can see, in the picture above, the token is presented as a triangle, each branch of the triangle has a specific meaning. There are 3 categories of stakeholders:
User: you
Advertiser: the advertiser
Publisher: the content creator (where the ad is displayed)
The user is paid when he sees an advertisement. That remuneration comes from the advertisement. He is the cash cow in the system. The content creator will be remunerated in a variable way according to the attention he will generate in the user.
As the remuneration of content creators is variable, it is difficult to give a percentage on the distribution of remuneration. However, I still tested the exercise.
Persons paying in BAT:
- Advertising 100%
Persons who are paid in BAT:
- Website where the ad appears: Between 35 and 55%
- Brave: between 30 and 50%
- User: 15% (fixed to be confirmed)
Small example to illustrate my remarks:
If an ad pays 1 BAT for its ad to be displayed on a website, the website that publishes the ad will receive between 0.35 and 0.55 BAT (depending on how long the user spends on the ad). The user who will see this advertisement will get 0.15 BAT.
As you will have understood, the big winners of this operation are the «content creator». The goal is to give them back power. Indeed, in traditional browsers, their remuneration is lower whereas they are the ones who create content and make the Internet live. If you don’t want to sell your Bats, you can hand them over to a content creator such as a small Youtuber or a blogger. In a future article, I will teach you how to do this manipulation. One more thing, you can do it in part to leave a small tip but you don’t have to give all your BAT if you do it.
If you have a website, blog, Youtube channel or other, I really invite you to create a Brave Creator account. Once again, I would write an article to explain the steps to be taken. However they are very simple and I invite you to visit this page if you want to be recognized as a content creator.
