During its existence, Sonic has definitely gained a strong position in the entertainment world, whether as a character in the series or in a relatively large number of different game designs. The latest, of course, resonates the upcoming film processing, but not because of the quality but the strange look of Sonica. The theme of this review is not the movie, but the new game title Team Sonic Racing.
A simple and concise name will give you a very good idea of what the game is all about, but we will recap it for sure. Another Sonica game was announced only in the first half of last year, but still had an ambitious plan to get into stores during the winter. As we know, she failed to do so, and so we get to her now. Delays are unpleasant, but if they are to help the overall quality of the game, it can be understood and the right fan always waits.
Sonic is known for his crazy speed, but in Team Sonic Racing he doesn't rely on his own fitness to help himself with a bit slower but still fast four-wheel machine. Taking with him all his friends, or vice versa, always enemies, and embarks on a spectacular championship, in which he wants to win first by using his skills behind the wheel. This, of course, is not the story of the game. She has her own, in which it's all the other way around. Sonic doesn't invite anyone to the race, but he's getting an invitation from Dodon Pa. But he doesn't just want to organize a friendly contest out of goodwill, and so the situation in the story campaign gently entangles. However, the story of the game is here only as a complement to the priority entertainment of the ride itself. It is not particularly interesting, but at the same time it is a pleasant variegation.

Creators from the English Sumo Digital studio had a challenge on the table - bringing an entertaining title in a genre that is very characteristic of Mario. Several brands tried to imitate the qualities offered by the title with a bewildered plumber, but not all of them managed to get closer. Team Sonic Racing is on the way and it is not afraid of possible failures - as you can read from the name, here you play not for yourself, but for the team. But it also means that if you are the best, weaker riders can pull you down. Ultimately, getting behind the finish line first means nothing at all. This is exactly what the campaign campaign is, which you can play locally with multiple players. But by default, you can rely on team players represented by artificial intelligence. The campaign has seven levels, each set in a different area. The number seven is therefore also the number of places where available routes are oriented. There are twenty-one of them in the game and you will gradually make their way.
The campaign goes slowly, with fewer races and easier bonus races. Gradually, their intensity and expected demands increase. This can be said of the difficulty, which can be set separately before each race, but the game is gradually increasing the throttle. To some extent, however, this is also due to what divides each chapter the most. With the new chapter, the number of racers on the track is also increasing, but only until it stops at number twelve. As the number of riders increases, so does the number of teams participating in the race. So you have an extra competition that puts you even more at risk of driving fast, but especially of the powerups you gain. You get them by collecting items on the track, always getting a random weapon. There are standard missiles, missiles that find their victim, exploding boxes, bombs, but also lasers or boosters.
There are a lot of zlepšovás, but you do not always need the one you just get. And this solves Sonic with an emphasis on team play. Since you are a team and as a team in the finish you earn points that will subsequently get you to the final position, so as a team you have to work together on the track. Your team leader can pull you forward because you can use his air bag for short acceleration. You can also help by passing a teammate at a higher speed. But very helpful is offering the powerups obtained. If you are in the first place and do not need rackets, you can simply offer them to a teammate who is behind you and help him get ahead.

All team actions are monitored and rewarded accordingly. There is also a special ability that you can use to fulfill your team play indicator. They will speed you up and become immortal, while you can stun opponents. About this style of play is a campaign, but also present in the local game or online part. You can play here as individual races, as well as championships for four races or a simple time trial. Of course, if you are tired of this style of play, you can easily stand on the starting line as a single unit without participating in the team. So everyone plays for himself.
The team style of the game is definitely well worked out, but something is missing to perfection. Playing teamwork solely with artificial intelligence is certainly not the right thing to do, so you better reach for the online part. However, the best way is a local game, but to get the most out of it, you have to take it to a party or at least talk to your family on boring weekends. In addition to classic racing, the game will also offer challenges in which you must destroy your opponent's cars, collect coins by drift or cross the gates. You can run a campaign in about six hours, but if you want to have everything at 100 percent, it will take a lot more time. The game is not bad even from the point of view of the already mentioned tracks. It will take you some time to look, which is, of course, good.
The question is, however, whether the same positive impression will remain after tens of hours playing outside the campaign. Certainly, any other circuits would certainly not hurt. Their design is playful, it makes sense and can torment you. It also offers advantages or disadvantages for different characters. Each character has different characteristics and some can ride on water or mud. The game tries to gently dig into the possibility of editing cars. You can open boxes with upgrades or special accessories for your car. These affect the specific characteristics of the car and also improve its visual. It's a welcome variegation, but it's pretty drab. It only acts in numbers and deserves more attention.

Team Sonic Racing offers solid gameplay with an emphasis on teamwork. This is really well done and motivates players to communicate, tolerate and help to achieve common success. The way the game tries to achieve it is fun and unexpected in many ways. It is trying to do it in an approximately six-hour campaign that introduces you to all available circuits, while giving you the chance to get to know the different abilities of your charged opponents. The real power of the game, for obvious reasons, lies in cooperation, both online and local. The creators thus managed to perform a challenging task, perhaps surprisingly well, but not flawlessly.
