Wild west, Gold rush, Do your own research

By Gabor | Gabor's Crypto Thoughts | 24 Nov 2020

My friends often ask me, what altcoins to buy, is it time to buy ETH or BTC? I don't have a crystal ball and I am also not an advanced technical trader.

But I tell them to always do their research.

This market is like the wild west and the gold rush. There are so many scams, it's impossible to count. There are people pretending to be Elon Musk, Ivan on Tech and other famous or somewhat known people. You will get hundreds of Telegram, Discord scam messages just because you signed up to a few interesting groups. There are YouTubers selling you rubbish. Just like in the gold rush, people want to get rich. Very rich as fast as possible. On Rarible people buy arts for 0.02 ETH and trying to sell for 4-5 ETH the next day. It's nothing wrong with making profit, but if you're not careful, you might end up being the person buying overpriced things.

I remember, buying Pundi X, because "it's cheap and when it will be a dollar, we'll be millionaires". Not saying that Pundi X is a bad project or not - but greed and FOMO doesn't help making good and sound decisions. Whether it's good or not, the crypto market is largely driven by fear and greed, not solid fundamentals.

The current craze is a great example for that. People make random decisions because they have a fear of missing out. They hear tips of unknown DeFi projects and they buy in because they hope to make 1,000x growth. Which might be possible in this market, but don't make emotion-drive decisions.

Find the project that you believe in (because it's fundamentally good), rather than take the punt and buy an altcoin that is "cheap" or you heard once in a YouTube channel that it's great.

I started with crypto like lot of the other people. Heard it's great, didn't do anything until the big pump late 2017, then bought all kinds of alts that lost 90+% of their value in a few months. But then I realised how much potential there is truly...
