According to Reuters, France will try to persuade other EU Member States to adopt cryptocurrency regulations similar to those enacted by their government.
French Economy and Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire claims to encourage other EU countries to approach cryptocurrency in a similar vein to the French who have adopted new regulations for cryptocurrency last week. These should lead to attracting new technology companies to the country, as well as merchants who know the clear terms of how they should tax their cryptanal revenues.
Under the new French regulations, companies behind cryptocurrency will have to apply for certification to allow authorities to verify who is behind a new coin or trading platform. At the same time, they will be able to see to it that these businesses respect money laundering (AML).
"Our model is the right one," Le Maire said confidently, reiterating that he wanted to convince other EU members to adopt it.
France also adopted a law last week, which includes a permit for insurers to invest in cryptocurrency . Thanks to this, insurance benefit providers can invest in Bitcoin and other cryptocurrency through specialized funds without any limitations. It also allows them to offer life insurance contracts in cryptocurrencies.
In January, the European Banking Authority (EBA) called on EU Member States to proceed with a further cryptanalysis market and to try to regulate them in a more coherent way. The organization also highlighted the need for banners and appropriate public alerts on cryptocurrency risks.
