Software startup DataLight has published the results of its research, which concludes that Bitocin can replace existing popular global payment systems within 10 years.

Visa, MasterCard and PayPal must be on the lookout for DataLight. If the current growth rate of the Bitcoin network continues, within 10 years, the most valuable cryptocurrency as a payment system will be to overcome its competition.

The basis of this DataLight assumption is already a much larger number of nodes, lower fees and average transaction size, among other technical factors. For example, Bitcoin has about 10,000 active nodes compared to 119 Visa, 98, which has MasterCard and 51 PayPal.

At the same time, Bitcoin has fewer users, which is logical as it only works for 10 years. Visa and MasterCard debuted in the 50's and 60's, PayPal was created in 1998. While Bitcoin has around 25 million existing wallets, the number of Visa and MasterCard credit and debit cards exceeded 5.3 billion.

However, DataLight also draws attention to the deficiencies of Bitcoin, which still prevent it from becoming a full run. While Bitocin is currently only able to process about seven transactions per second, Visa can handle around 65,000.

"Bitcoin's payment system is already much better than regular international payments and bank transfers," says DataLight.
