The Great Wall (or the Great Wall of China) is located in China. In the current days we know that The Great Wall is about 21,196km(13,171mi) and it's estimated that 1/3 of the walls already had disappeared.
Every time I mention TGW is an acronym for The Great Wall.
For what were it buit for and who were the builders?
The Great Wall was used to protect and consolidate territories of Chinese states against Eurasian nomads. On this enormous wall we can slipt in 3 main "constructors" (they didn't any work, just sent persons to work on the "project"), the Chu (state) (704 - 223 BC) started builting TGW in the start of their empire. Later Qin Shi Huagan (220 - 2006 BC, the founder of Qin dynasty) joined in the construction of TGW, another random information Qin Shi Huagan was the first Imperator of China. The last contributor for extend TGW was Ming dynasty (1368 - 1644) the part that most well-know was built by this last dynasty.
Can we actually see The Great Wall from Space?
No, we can't see TGW from space. According to astronauts Eugene Cernan and Ed Lu, the Great Wall is visible from the lower part of low Earth orbit[2000km(1200mi) from center of the Earth], but only under very favorable conditions.
