For The Birds is growing. I'm excited to announce Nesting, a game playable by bird holders. Nesting is a katamari type game in development that leverages blockchain tech for authorization and world building. Roll up stuff to make the biggest nest you can.

Katamari?

You may not have experienced the Japanese game that came out on the playstation2 in the mid 2000s called "Katamari Damacy." The premise was simple: roll up objects smaller than you to grow while avoiding larger objects that are too big to incorporate. The plot was jokey, the gameplay was bizarre, fun, and challenging, and the music was the most cheerful thing - ever. I highly recommend playing it. Not all the sequels are relevant. After it became a cult classic, the style and characters got slapped onto some real bad spin-offs. I know Nesting will never be as good, but can hopefully be interesting and fun in its own right. After all, I do not have a highly skilled team with financial backing. I just have my evenings and weekends ;)

How the NFTs fit in.

• The bird NFTs are keys to play. If you don't own any birds, the game wont load. No worries though currently you can buy birds from the official drops for as low as 3 WAX (33cents at the time of writing this). On the market you can find some even cheaper.
• The Species (template id) is used as a level seed. Each bird species gets a different level. Currently differences are minor, but will become more dramatic as development continues. By using the same bird, you can still have fair competition for leaderboards, etc..
• The conservation status controls play time. Rarer birds can play longer, allowing you to get bigger during the game and roll up even more stuff.

I'm currently developing the game on a small server for (nearly) no cost. The downside is I don't know how much traffic it can handle. The upside is the limited availability pairs well with the relatively scarce NFTs. For the time being, the project will be kept small while we get a feel for resource needs.

Continued Development

There is a lot to do! Much of the base code is written and working, but it's far from complete. Here are some things on the top of the To-Do list.

• Choose bird instead of random selection of your birds.
• Music and SFX.
• Many of the assets are currently from the asset store and will be replaced/edited.
• More 3D objects are needed for finding/picking up.
• Unique objects for landmarks.
• Some objects placed along paths.
• Better UI graphics/fonts
• Controller support.
