Why I Enjoy Living in a Flat

I grew up in a private house but after I moved to live alone I got to live in a box surrounded by many others. There so much life around living in a flat. Random things are happening at the least expected moments.

Sounds

Most of the time I know somebody is behind the wall or a ceiling because of the sounds I hear. They constantly remind me that I’m not alone as the building I live in built using big hollow bricks. It might seem that there is nobody around me, but all these clangs, pops, bumps and laughs show that I’m a part of something big.

I would say that the noises giving a sense of someone’s presence is a positive element. How can I expect people not to drop a utensil, phone, or bump into a wall? It’s a sign of normal life!

There was a time when everyone left the apartment building because of an earthquake that happened recently. It was creepy to hear only myself!

However, not all noises are encouraged! Sometimes I hear as if someone killed a baby elephant upstairs. I know, I know… it’s just a sound of a chair being dragged by the floor. In Lithuania when someone makes a lot of disturbing noise by dragging a chair we hush them by saying, “stop plowing the floor!”

Once there was something that seemed like an explosion. I had a calm time studying when all of a sudden there was this huge bang followed by countless drops of something small. I thought a bomb blew off the top of our building!

Simple logic brought me back into reality as I realized that I would’ve lost the ceiling if it was as destructive. Maybe, it was just a vase or a big glass bowl that the gravity multiplied and stretched.

Unexpected gifts on windy days

From time to time some objects end up falling to my floor. Well, actually on the balcony. Sometimes I find parts of flowers, hair, onion shells. Nobody can throw up to the 5th-floor theses things! Why would they? It’s the wind, I’m sure.

It’s thrilling to go and check the drops every time strong wing ceases. The biggest ‘treasure’ I discover was one laundry hanging clip. I was very excited! It was the kind of clips I’m using myself!

No frustration

That’s why I enjoy living in a flat. I believe it’s important to look at not so comfortable experiences with a smile. I could be annoyed and complain but it wouldn’t help anyone. On the other hand, a light-hearted attitude helps to enjoy life and what it gives.
