I write for a living, so the one thing I always pay attention to when I'm watching a movie or a TV show is dialogue.
I've watched the first episode of Bad Monkey, a new series on Apple TV, and I loved it. I loved it because Vince Vaughn is a great character, incredibly apt when it comes to delivering lines filled with dry humour, and I love it because the story is quite interesting.
But mostly I love it because the writing is spot on.
The screenwriters really went to town with this one.
Every line is carefully scripted, carefully crafted, carefully though out, and thought through.
And I love the fact they nailed what Hollywood screenwriters often get wrong.
Because one of the things I dislike about Hollywood scripts is that people never sound real. They often use words or expressions no one would use in real life.
But in Bad Monkey, that doesn't happen much. And when it does, it makes sense. It's like, 'yeah that's something I wouldn't say in the real world, but I could'.
So kudos to Apple TV for that.
