Thinkning About Doing a Mid Year Review (even if I Had No New Year Resolutions)

By AX17 | figurehowtowrite | 1 Jul 2023

I got in may mail a message from Medium inviting readers to think about yearly progress and maybe make a sort of mid-year restart, something like a review. The emails sounds like this:

Hi everyone,

This weekend marks the halfway point of the year. Time management experts suggest harnessing this opportunity to review actions and set new goals for the rest of the year. Things to consider: What is working for you? What isn’t? Did your New Year’s resolutions stick? Have you turned your daily exercise into a habit rather than a chore?

It immediately caught my attention as it is indeed an intriguing question, to just sit and thing about stuff like that in the middle of the year.

Just now when vacation starts.

SO, I took a few moments to review and here are so far the results:

- my New Year Resolution was inexistent, I stopped making plans like that many years ago so I decided to just review as is

- the year is going well and I am more than happy with everything there is

- the fact that we are all healthy and happy is all that matters, so that is in a nutshell my mid-year review

- regarding material aspects and money in general things are worse than previous year, but it can always get even worse. Or better. Going with the flow, good days and bad days

Now, time for some aspects that I did not plan and still did in this half year (despite no resolution):

  • more physical exercise. Since November 2022 I could finally stick to a regular weekly practice, till today. Will see how that goes, but for sure I did not plan it or make it a NY resolution, it is a nice habit though
  • learnt more about trading techniques and improved day to day activities in this area. But, not the profits:)
  • established a more profound daily routine for improving my language skills in a foreign language that I study since 2011
  • improving the writing practice in English
  • tried to connect with people from the past in attempt to re-establish communication and improve friendships
  • made 2 new friends this year
  • published a few books on amazon, which was hard work but I learnt new skills
  • got rid of all the useless work I used to do across all my youtube channels and focusing on just one channel
  • met great people in the online communities, including here on Publish0x
  • discovered the power of chatGPT and AI made me so happy this year but the work realities also made me understand the importance of when and if to use these tools

Well, while it seemed useless at start to do a mid-year review, now I find it as a good experience, giving me some insights and maybe a little motivation on what I might wish to accomplish in the next period.

But enough about me, what do you think about this challenge? Would you do such mid-review? Are NY resolutions your cup of tea or rather not?

Let me know in the comments bellow

Sending you love, cheers and good vibes from end of the world,

till later
