Few Parsec Away

Here we go, another WAX game on the horizon. Few Parsecs away. I already hate the name, so from here on out, I'm going to refer to this game as FPA. FPA claims to launch on September 1st and will have PvP and PvE elements. It is a browser-based strategy game set in space, specifically within the solar system. FPA will be free-to-play with NFTs, in-game tokens, and Fractals, which will represent premium elements that players can use to progress faster within the Parsec universe (eye roll). There will be fleet ships and space stations that will allow players to own the spacecraft they build, which can be traded with other players.

Parsec will have three factions: Emperor, Republic, and Rebels. There are four planets: Earth, Mars, The Belt, and Ganymede. There are five Commanders which, once staked, provide certain advantages in specific sectors of the colony's industry: General, Admiral, Engineer, Researcher, and Professor. There is a limited number of twelve different Space Stations, too many to list here, which will serve as trading hubs in the universe. There are eleven spacecraft: four Attackers, two Cargo, one Spy, one Recycler, one Mining, one Terraforming, and one PREMIUM Attacker for those WAX whales and show-offs. And now, the best for last: PFPs that represent the profile picture of each player and will be used as a Governance Non-Fungible token that grants the owner the right to 1 voting-point for project-related decisions. The goal? To build and grow their own colony on one of the planets. Each player can choose whether to focus on industrial activity, trade, or battles.

Resources in the game will include Titanium, Authenium, Helium, Food, and Energy. You will upgrade Research, Spaceships, and Ion Cannons with Fractals. Once you are all set up, you will send your ships out on a Mission (heard this before?). Trading, buying, and selling Resources will be completed in-game. You will be required to maintain a stock level of Resources in your Space Station, and there will be a leaderboard for resources consumed: 1 point for every 10,000 units.

The Fractal (FRCT) token has a maximum supply fixed at 1 million and will gradually decrease each time it is used. Every transaction that occurs within the universe results in the burning of 0.001% of the transaction value. You can earn FRCT by trading in space stations, trading directly with other players, and exchanging them on decentralized exchanges. Before the game launch, there will be a pre-mining phase where players can stake their commanders to earn FRCT.

Now that you understand the basics of the game, haven't we seen this game played out time and time again? Has it ever been successful? Do these games ever leave you satisfied? When I play resource management games, I am constantly spending 100% of the in-game token on upgrades or buying new in-game items. With this game, there will be a large number of NFTs to spend your money on: 5 commanders, 12 space stations, 11 spacecraft, AND PFPs. All of which distracts you from making your ROI. ROI? Return on your investment? Oh, you're not here for ROI? That's perfect if you want to play this game.

When I think of games that incorporate blockchain technology, I think of investment. Why? Because I'm too busy playing triple-A games on consoles or PC. Your blockchain game will need to keep my attention away from turning on my Xbox. When you compare a web-based browser blockchain game to a triple-A game that 4 or 5 of my friends are playing, I don't have time to send my spaceship off on a mission so that I get 1 in-game token to spend on repairs when my spaceship returns. There is no fun in watching a timer count down so I can click this and click that again.

Resource management games are good for those who enjoy that type of gameplay. I'm sure many people will enjoy playing FPA and sharing their PFPs. The structure seems sound, and there is only one token, although many resources. They are having a pre-sale of Commander Packs going live today via their website https://tools.parsecgame.io/. I'm not a fan of pre-sales before game launch.

If you decide to dive in, good luck. I'm staying far away from this one.
