In a surprise announcement by steemit account @hiveio, a new fork of STEEM has been announced. 

Enter HIVE.

In their own words:

Hive is a DPOS governance blockchain created by implementing a hard fork of existing Steem code.

In short, HIVE is a fork off of STEEM after the creators of STEEM, Steemit Inc. sold their shares to the founder of shitcoin, TRON, Justin Sun.

Justin Sun hoped to pull a pump and dump, buying up Steemit Inc.'s founding shares of STEEM, which that company had promised never to use, in the hopes of using that STEEM too create an infinite money printing machine. 

The DPoS mechanism of STEEM's blockchain means that the more STEEM you own, the higher value upvote you have.

Because Steemit Inc had owned such a vast supply of STEEM, having this amount and using it to upvote yourself meant, in short, a money printing machine that could flood the blockchain with STEEM and thus, pump and dump!

But people were tired of this bullshit and developers have officially created a fork of STEEM. HIVE hopes to followup on the promises of a truly decentralized blockchain social media network. 

And this truly could be it folks. 

Now, I LOVE publish0x. But there's no reason to give other platforms a shot as well. 

Now, Publish0x is amazing. I love it. But there's no reason we can't also use other platforms for different reasons.

Those of us who uphold the ideas of decentralization as a basic right, who want to counteract the effects of CIA/FBI data mining in shit like Facebook, see this as a win.
