Recently, news broke of a Binance executive being kidnapped and subsequently forced to empty his crypto wallet. He emptied a total of $12M USD; the kidnappers turned the money into TRON very quickly. Binance was able to subsequently track down these transactions and have companies involved freeze all transactions, and therefor recovered 11.4 million dollars of the executives' money.
This came as an absolute surprise to everyone in the crypto community as it showed that physical robberies still exist in the crypto world. It was a reality check to everyone involved as it was only expected that cyber-attacks would happen; nobody had expected a hostage situation translated into a massive robbery. 94% of the stolen funds were recovered; this leaves 700,000$ in the hands of the criminals which will also likely be taken back soon enough as all the tokens and wallets involved are now blacklisted off all major exchanges and DEXs, making it technologically impossible to do anything with the stolen funds.
I guess this really goes to show just how valuable crypto really is. Look at it this way, you're able to transport 12 million dollars in under a minute. Isn't that just crazy? Banks take weeks. Corporations take months. Imagine 30 seconds? With a 0.4$ fee? If you told me that 10 years ago, I'd tell you to keep dreaming. We're lucky to be alive in such a time like this. There are pros and there are cons, some of the cons include extra convenience for robbers, and the pros include seamless and cheap transactions for your business ventures, meaning you're able to sell items and products in seconds, especially if you do high ticket sales or are brokering some sort of corporate acquisition.
The world is transforming, and we're lucky to be apart of it.
That's all for today.
Stay safe and don't get robbed.
