I did it! I created my first ERC-20 token called LightYearKilometer (LYK). It was a thrilling experience that I want to share with you and hopefully, inspire you to create your own token as well.

First off, I did a lot of research on the internet to understand what ERC-20 tokens are, how they work, and how they can be created. After that, I decided to create my own token on the Base testnet, a test network that is separate from the Ethereum mainnet, and which might have an airdrop once Base mainnet is launched - fyi, Base is Coinbase L2's network.

To add the Base testnet to Metamask, all you need to do is click on the link https://chainlist.org/chain/84531

The first step was to create a smart contract that would define the token. I used Solidity, a programming language for creating smart contracts on Ethereum, to write the contract, with the help of OpenZeppelin. I defined the token name, symbol and total supply. Then, I compiled the contract and deployed it to the Base testnet.

Once the contract was deployed, I was able to interact with it using a tool called Remix, which allowed me to test the contract's functionality and make sure everything was working correctly.

Next, I added my token to my Metamask wallet. Once you have added the Base testnet to your Metamask wallet, you can also add the LYK token to your account. Just scroll down on your wallet, click on "Import tokens" and then copy and paste the following contract address:
