What’s cooler than crypto, space and NFTs? It has to be the Mars4 Metaverse! One of the newest contenders in the Play-to-Earn (P2E) space is Mars4. With NFT games like Axie Infinitie, Illuvium, Decentraland and the Sandbox generating billions in market cap, it was only a matter of time before developers turned their attention to space.
Mars4 is currently in their infancy. So far they have created an interactive 3D replica of Mars and are in the process of releasing plots of land in several purchase rounds. In addition they are selling the Mars token which is available on SushiSwap’s MISO platform. It only took the project 45 minutes to raise their minimum goal:

According to their “Lightpaper”, we will all have the opportunity to buy land, buy tokens, yield farm, liquidity mine, terraform to drive additional value and more through P2E mechanics. It’s all very exciting in the long-term but there does appear to be some immediate challenges for the team. Their communications with the public are leaving a lot to be desired. Moderators on discord are doing their best to answer questions but they are not always getting the answers they need. The only posts that seem to coming up on their Telegram channel is for funding and AMAs. NFT sale dates are slipping. This has not discouraged demand however. They have completely sold out of their 'Epoch 0' NFT sale. Looking at the sale schedule below we can see the potential this Metaverse has with just future land resale. Being able to potentially capture 8–10x your returns is quite attractive.

As we progress into the future of the game there has been talk of VR integration, the mining of resources for a virtual player economy that exchanges Mars tokens for goods and much more. The Mars4 team shows their ambitions here:

Looking at P2E games like Axie Infinitie, simply look too rudimentary to me but Mars captures my imagination. It speaks to the nature of man and the quest to explore which is deeply entrenched in our DNA. The idea is rock solid and if the project team can execute on their plan it’s going to be a real unicorn and in a very big way.
This is a project I can get behind and support. I believe they are just scratching the surface on what is possible. It also would not surprise me in the least if we begin to see a shift in gaming as an industry to a P2E model. See you on Mars!
A note to developers: I sincerely hope your can leverage some of the resource harvesting concepts from Star Wars Galaxies, including the marketplace interfaces that people could place inside their own structures!
