The Dell Inspiron 3585

I purchased my Dell Inspiron 3585 back in February of 2020 this year right before my first back surgery. I have been waiting allow to finally give an actual review of my thoughts and expectations and the flaws I have had to come to live with.

I have pretty well always been a fan of Dell in general. Dell has always delivered the quality products that I had came to expect from Dell. I enjoy the touchscreen functionality of the Dell Inspiron 3585.

What is inside?

  • 128 GB Hard Drive space
  • 8 GB Ram
  • AMD Ryzen 3 2200U with Radeon Vega Mobile Gfx 2.50 GHZ Processor
  • Touch Screen
  • 17 inch monitor
  • Numbers Pad (right side of keyboard)

My Experience.

I have been using my Dell Inspiron for 8 months now. I have not put a lot of hours on this laptop as I have other laptops. I like the speed and performance. The touch screen feature isn't really why I went with this model.

I was looking for a Chrome Book when I actually came across this laptop. I was wanting a laptop to use for blogging and other activities that will strain your eyes on a mobile phone.

I winded up with the Inspiron 3585 basically for the following reasons. It has Windows 10, 128 GB of hard drive space which considering I have google for cloud storage which has more space than I'll ever need personally. That made the 128 GB of space more than I would ever need.

That is what I thought all the way up until I decided to add different crypto wallets. I found out that I should have probably went with at least a TB of space or more. However for blogging, browsing the web and watching videos the Dell Inspiron 3585 is the best choice.

The 8 GB of ram is more then enough resources for what I do on a daily basis and the 2.50 GHZ processor gives me the speed that I want. Now if only I could High Speed internet in my area I would be sit.

The dreadful Battery Life?

First off, I usually never let my battery run below 45% before I charge it back up. I have ran this laptop down to around 8% a few times while being on the road and not paying attention to the battery life. When the battery is completely charged it shows a life of around 8 Hours. That would be awesome. However I typically get about 3 hours of normal use out of a fully charged battery. I can charge the battery and leave the laptop on standby for days without draining the battery.

I have found in my experience with any device that has a rechargeable battery it greatly depends on the user and how they take care of the battery as far as how long the battery will last before going bad and the type of life that you will get out of the battery. I know in some rare cases you will get a defective battery. However if you are one of the people that gets a defective battery be sure to contact customer service as the battery are normally covered  in the one year manufactures warranty.

My only complaint!

I have only one complaint when it comes to my Dell Inspiron 3585. The space bar when I first bought it was very unresponsive. The longer I use the laptop the better the space bar has gotten in my case. That is the only complaint I have about this particular model.

My recommendation.

I would highly recommend it over a Chrome Book any day. This model isn't the best system in my opinion for any major gaming. They do have them in this model that come with 1 TB of Hard Drive space, 2.5 GHZ processor, 12 GB of Ram and some really nice graphics cards.

What should you think about before purchasing a Laptop?

You should seriously consider the following before making your final decision.

  • Where do you plan on using it?
  • What do you do most on your device?
  • Do you need a lot of Hard Drive space?
  • Do you need an insane amount of Ram?
  • Gaming?
  • Browsing the web?
  • Watching videos?

Why does the above questions matter?

Simply put, the more you plan on doing with your laptop the more resources in which you will require. Like I said for my case. I only need something with a small HD, a decent amount of ram and a good processor.

However I only browse the internet, watch videos and blog. I wouldn't need a gaming laptop for those needs. The difference between deciding what you want to do with your laptop could save you around a $1,000.00 USD

For example: My Grandmother God rest her soul, she would always buy the highest quality Dell All in One PC. However my Grandmother never even needed a quarter of the space or power she paid for. I always told her she only need a cheap $300.00 PC for just browsing the internet and playing her FaceBook word games she so dearly loved. However, that was her mindset. You get what you pay for.

Where can you purchase a Dell?

Amazon is a great place if you like to order online. You can use the links above which are affiliate links to amazon. You can also go to Best Buy if you don't mind taking the risk with Covid-19 going around. I do like the experience of shopping at Best Buy. I tend to always find a well educated sales person that knows technology like I do which makes shopping that much easier.
