Are you thinking of starting a Business? Have you decided what type of business you want to involved with. Is it product, sales , service or consultancy based? Once you have made the decision and looked at the positives and negatives then you should start doing some spade work.

In my years as  consultant, I have always asked people if they looked not at all the positives but at the negatives. Many would call me a pessimist. which is quite the opposite. However to be neutral you need to see the downside and have a contingency or a exit program in place. 

A plan of what your business will look like needs to be set up. If you were to try and get financing, the first thing a banker or lender would ask you is if you have a plan in place. Basically your plan is a roadmap for the direction you want the business to go and grow. It is like setting out on a raod trip. Your triptik  or GPS will show you what roads and highways to take to reach your destination. 

Unlike a road trip your business plan may or maynot be consice as it depends how much of thoughts and time you put into it to draw it up. Life is a journey so also is your business plan. Sometimes adhereing to it will lead you to your destination after encountering all the pot holes and bumps. For others you may have to make a detour and find an alternative route.

So what must your business plan comprise of? It is a projection of what you would like your business to look like 5 years from now. Basically a five year plan. It should show how nuch of capital, machinery and labor you will need in the five years. The  key to make this is a reality, will be your focus on sales. Without any sales your plan will fail.

Sales is the heart of all successful businessess. So that should your main focus. A lot of attention should be placed in segementing the markets you would look at and also where your emphasis should be. Your research should be disected to give you the best bang for your marketing and sales dollars to bring in the revenue it needs to be successful.
