Based on my previous TFUEL articles I feel like the Publish0x community loves earning TFUEL. So lets go with a new update to "mining" TFUEL.
It all started with the pre-guardian node way back when. It was simple and easy to earn a "butt-load" of TFUEL. What it did was use your extra network bandwidth to relay videos to other viewers and earn a network fee of sorts for helping the Peer-2-Peer video format. It didn't require much of any compute resources.
There was a point where running the Pre-Guardian Node did not have a great return on investment (which is saying a lot because the investment was next to nothing). But the new Edge Node is so much better.
Lets go through all the areas to this GUI node.
Watch:
It brings theta.tv into the node itself. You can watch live streams right from the Node which is a welcome addition.
Broadcast:
This is where you can start your own stream. As I have never done it, I can't get into the specifics but it appears to be very simple to start a stream to the Theta network.
Cache/Compute:
And ladies and gentlemen here is the bread and butter. This is where you can earn passive TFUEL and it's great. You will see I have a pending earnings of 32 TFUEL. That is over 1 week period but it's not an accurate amount of earnings over a week. Because I was testing out how much I could earn only doing one of the 2 options. So for me, I would guestimate earning about 100 TFUEL a week. With TFUEL being about $0.01 right now that is $1 a week or $52 a year. That isn't all that great but TFUEL is on the rise so earn it now while it's low and HODL!
Edge Cache:
The Edge Cache is where you relay video streams on the Theta network. It only requires network resources to run so I would leave this checked 24/7. In my experience it doesn't earn much of anything in a week but added with Edge Compute it a no-brainer.
Edge Compute (Beta):
Edge Compute is where you can really earn some TFUEL. From my tests (running only the Compute or only the Cache) running the Edge Compute earns the most TFUEL. The caveat is though it requires your computer resources (CPU/RAM/etc) to run. If you have a really crappy PC then maybe only the Cache section is viable. But if you have even a decent computer I would highly recommend running the Compute.
So something that needs to be explained is that the Theta network is not a Proof of work as many know it. Proof of work is usually a bunch of miners running high end computers with expensive GPUs to solve equations to earn a reward. TFUEL has "miners" but it is only for people running the node and replaying the live video streams to people nearby geographically and in doing so you earn TFUEL for helping out.
So what Theta has done has partnered with Folding@Home to add a CPU/RAM mining option to earn TFUEL. The cool part is that you are helping Folding@Home when you are mining and thereby helping the world. If you don't know what Folding@Home is then I highly recommend you check them out here --> https://foldingathome.org/ It is a network of computers across the globe donating their processing power to help in the research of cancer cures, COVID, etc.
Once you enable the Edge Compute I would take note of how much of your computer's resources it is using. If you think you can spare more resources then you can up the Power Mode. Go to the top menu and select "Edge Compute", then go down to "Power Mode". Select the Power Mode you want to use. I use Medium but even at HIGH mode it uses about 25% of my CPU resources and 30% of my RAM.
That is the general gist of the Edge Node. I mentioned earlier about TFUEL only going up and here is a graph from CoinGecko on the price of TFUEL. Guys if any token/coin has a great chance of ballooning it is TFUEL. TFUEL is the gas coin of the Theta Network, so don't expect it's price to rise to hundreds of dollars. That being said it is worth $0.01 right now and I can see that at least quadrupling by same time next year.
